After watching the film Giant, I come to realize his role and film definitely had elements of future CBS Drama "Dallas". And I was right (I read that creators of Dallas had used Giant as a template). Dean's role very much reminded me of Digger Barnes

Dean was gayer than a 2 dollar bill, he got caught making out with a few different other secret Hollywood gay dudes. Back when gay people were cool and didn't force feed their way of life into every conversation or teach 3 year old children about drag queens... or demand you call them plural pronouns...or destroy women's sporting records...or demand I believe that men can get pregnant.

I'm not sure what came first, but when I was in high school in the '80's, I saw Rebel, read East of Eden (then watched the film) in my American Lit class, and was really into the Eagles, who did that song Simon references on their 3rd album. I've kind of been in love with James Dean ever since.

I actually noticed that around the 80s there was a big obsession around 50s pop culture and nostalgia. A lot of craze over classic icons such as James Dean or Audrey Hepburn, shows and movies like Happy Days, MASH, Back To The Future, some big artists like Billy Joel and David Bowie taking on that classic sound, etc. Kinda funny but cool how back in the 80s people loved 50s nostalgia, and now we love 80s nostalgia haha

I had watched "Rebel Without a Cause" with my mom when I was probably 7 or 8, and the "YOU'RE TEARING ME APART" line had always stuck with me, as did the scene with him in the road with the little cymbal monkey. But I never cared about what happened to actors from movies. I didnt see actors, I just saw characters that only existed in that film. I kind of grew out of that mindset, but it wasn't until my senior year when I decided to "make it an easy year" (which I later regretted not taking a math class because it fucked up my college plans) I took a film history class (which I have never regretted) and it truly taught me how beautiful history could be, and seeing it caught on film in any conceivable way is incredible. Watching the old Lumiere 'films' of people simply walking up and down stairs or clocking into work, and realizing that was entertainment back then, if only for the novelty. Then The Great Train Robbery causing panic because film had evolved to the point where someone could "shoot" a gun right at the camera, then the Silent Era, where I discovered Buster Keaton and his physical comedic styling, followed shortly after by the Marx Bros. It all gave me a very broad view on how film can capture so many things, from sports bloopers to violent goldfish to cats befriending birds to people seeing color for the first time through special glasses. Film is a beautiful tool, and film, along with the successes and tragedies that come along with it, is an invaluable way of showing how far we've come so quickly and how much more is to come

Well done Simon & Co. Dean's famous line from Rebel Without A Cause, "You're tearing me apart!" has been reused in TV shows and cartoons. I don't think young kids watching the cartoon in which that line was uttered even got the reference. Oh, the cartoon was Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius. The character Carl Wheezer said the iconic Dean line, not word for word, but, I could tell where the writers got their inspiration.
@dafttool
@dafttool 2 жыл бұрын
There’s another iconic line that I recently saw on Instagram, where James Dean is trying to prevent Sal Mineo committing suicide, trying to trade his trademark red jacket for the gun, but talks to him about whether he’s ready to come out or not. Both men were gay. James Dean was brash with it. Mineo was not, & was later murdered by a street hustler. While not intentional, the lines have taken on new meanings over the years.
