Awesome video! There's something special about "mainline" trains street-running!

I was stationed at Fort Gordon for 15 months in late 1967 to December 1968. I don't remember seeing the trains when we went to Augusta. I wish I had. Reminds of some of the old days in Southern California.

Startes and Ringling Bros are the only entertainment companies who move their entire show by train.

wow nice...reminds me a lot of my lil hometown of Tarboro North Carolina because the tracks lie beside Albemarle Ave. but the tracks are not welded in the street like this but still and there is a slow speed limit there as well...also i love the old classic horn on that leading geep...plus i thought this was a circus train but after looking it up on google it turns out it is the fair train....i never knew the fair had its own train lol......

I bet that's one hell of a carnival. Looks like a portable disneyland. I wonder how long it takes for them to set it all up.

It takes them about 3&1/2 to 4 days. They come to Syracuse, NY every year for the New York State Fair. I worked for The Fair for 6 years and used to watch these guys do their thing.

A great shot of street running, and with a special movement as well. I have Pentrex videos of both Street Running, and North American Show Trains -- but this one has them both.

Thanks for the info. I figured, it would be quiet a bit from seeing all those rides and the equipment loaded on those numerous flat-cars.

@56yuoi yep, Ive talked to a few people around Augusta and they think since the Rairoad tracks go down the street that there Abandond, so they just ignore the tracks.

Brings back great childhood memories when James E Strates used to do the Clearfield County Fair. They would offload on 3rd St (which used to be a coal train route) and people would flock to watch all day long. My favorite part was when Jack Kochman's Hell Drivers would unload their '70 'Cudas. We never had a decent midway since Strates and our fairboard could no longer agree on terms. The tracks downtown are paved over, too. Moments like now leave me with a deep *sigh* that time marches on..

Some of the NS freights that go through Augusta originate in Macon, GA and terminate in Charlotte, NC. A stopped NS freight in Augusta is either taking a meal break or changing crews. But some do originate/terminate in Augusta.

When the railroad is there first and then the town develops around the railroad that is when you get track down the middle of the street.

Well done! Glad you used two cameras to also show the train going away. Why so slow? Holding up traffic far too long. Any height clearance issues with some of those circus rides? Thank you, csxman, for videoing and posting this.
@davidtheriot32054 жыл бұрын
No, train speeds are restricted when running down the street like that because of idiots in cars not giving the right of way to the train. At slow speeds the trains crew can react quickly to something.

hard to believe that there are people out there who are stupid enough to try and beat a train and those people who get lucky well luck will run out on them if they make it a habit of trying to beat a train.
