James Galway at the Waterfront

Galway may have his critics, but I am certainly not one of them. Their are very few flute players that can match his tone and overall command of the instrument. He single handedly brought the flute to the ears of many who never listened to classical music.....and for this he has done a great service to the instrument and classical music. Rampal and Galway made it possible for all the great flute players we enjoy today. Thank you for posting this performance.

RAMPAL in most recordings i heard i hated his sound. The highs notes are not good. Very thin sound or dirty at times. Only in his early recordings yes i do like the way he played.

Agreed. His tone is incredibly rich and his vibrato is gorgeous.

No, he was 60. This was in 1999 if I'm not mistaken. I met him for the first time when I was in college in 1988. He was 50, and I was 18.
