Doesn't get any better than this! James played and sang from the heart, lots of soul, dynamite solos, other musicians always all in the pocket, just a great band and great leader! Thank you James for leaving so many examples of how blues should be played.

Yes indeed. James is a friend of mine and he's as good as anybody at this thing called The Blues. He tells his story (he's one of the very best songwriters and vocalists) then his harp tells the story. My ex-wife described his harp style as 'sultry' - James enjoyed that. Today he's not in great shape health-wise or career-wise but he's made his mark and already created a great legacy - and it ain't over yet! Keep on James! Best wishes to all the people out there who love this stuff like I do.

The correct title of this song is "I've Got News For You" this is from a bootleg release on VHS then DVD, it was a TV show in Chicago and not suppose to be made into a product.. I never signed off on it. Somebody from the film crew held the tape, film whatever for 15 years then released it anyway without my permission. They have never discussed it with me or offered me a dime... digital technology is a mess. I'm glad you all like it and only wish I was getting paid for it.
@lipsnatcher1019 жыл бұрын
+porkbuttslim...funny you should say that! I would like to buy it but can't find it for sale? IS it available? If so, point me in a direction...
@jamesharman4139 жыл бұрын
+lipsnatcher101 I already answered this one, this song is on this bootleg only. I never released it for purchase. The film crew from this Chicago TV show held onto it for 15 years then released it as a video tape then a DVD... I suppose you could pay those bastards for a copy of the DVD, but I have nothing to do with it.
@lipsnatcher1019 жыл бұрын
+james harman No, you said this is from a bootleg release, not that you never released a version I could purchase...which is why i asked...so i could buy it. Regardless, a great job was done here and e everyone that sees is will look for more of your material.

This is incredible music. Great singing and harp...who is on guitar?
@jamesharman4134 жыл бұрын
@@stephenmctaggart8400 Hello Stephen Mc Taggert. although I wrote the song back when I had Kid Ramos and Hollywood Fats playing guitar in my band this live recording is froma few years later when Robert Eason was my guitar player. Hewas but 18 or 19 years old at that time. He left me when he was 23 to return to school and become an accountant, moved to Seattle , Washington, married had three children and has recently moved back to San Diego. Whenever he drops into my shows, he always swears he has not been activly playing music, but you can't tell, because he still sounds just as great as he did when he was playing all the time in my band. He is one of those "old souls" in a younger body. Thank you for asking.

Hi woodsheddin I know that James loves it when girls dance - have you never heard his Don't Spoil My View? I'm a musician myself and when people dance I feel the energy surge. It's great! And thanks for the response wonton5000: i've never played through a Mesa Boogie but if that's what Robbie said..! I still miss my reissue Super Reverb I had to sell. Combined with my Vox AC30 (Kid Ramos uses that combination of amps) or Twin reissue, it was fantastic, especially witha Korg 'Leslie' pedal.

Those two blonde amps are James' harp amps, both with one 15" speaker, his preference. Robbie sounds great through any decent amp. I saw in Nelson, Lancashire, U.K., playing through a hired Mesa Boogie. It was the sweetest sound since my man Peter Green. I told James that and he replied: "Phew...that's a big compliment. Peter Green's...er...(chuckle)...Peter Green!"

Hi bshuja5 With respect, it's not really in Kim Wilson's style...James was doing this stuff for ten years before Kim. It's the blues. He was born in Alabama, so he's a Southerner and this stuff is in his DNA! James is influenced by Junior Parker, Sonny Boy Williamson and many more of the great black performers, including soul singers like James Carr. But he is his own man, with his own ideas and songs, and has been for decades. And you're right, it is great stuff. Best wishes

At the time that video was shot, the RI bassman was not around yet so it's probably an original one. Might be a Bandmaster as well, it's hard to tell. Maybe he's plugged into one of the two blonde Twins behind him but it sounds more like a tweed amp to me.

Thanks bshuja5. Again, with respect, I just wanted to clarify that this stuff can't be called 'Kim's style'. There are quite a few guys who were doing it before him. I'm a Kim fan, I first saw him back in 1979 and 1980. He was astounding and it's an unforgettable memory! However, I suggest that you check out James' CDs, also Rod Piazza, another GREAT harpist who was doing it before Kim. I presume you're familiar with the work of Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson #2? Regards
