As a recovering addict who looks up to James I was waiting for someone to do an in depth analysis of James's addiction and you nailed it! I will be 2 years this July and I plan to have many more in the future! I will say my favorite section of the video was you touching on the concept of recovering addicts like myself being in denial of the fact that we miss drinking. I've had a far easier time staying sober than most I would say yet I still miss the nights of getting dumb drunk with friends while gaming and just not caring. I basically had to some because my blood work showed my liver enzymes were high. In the end though it brought me much happiness and peace as you stated and I don't regret my decision to stop remotely.

James' father (Virgil Hetfield) leaves home when James is 13 years old. Hetfield talking about his personal struggles as a teen when his father, virgil hetfield, abandoned the family when the singer was only 13 years old. "he left without saying goodbye," hetfield recalls in the documentary. "he left a note, and it wasn’t even to me. i wasn’t the man ... i wasn’t taught to step up." over time, the elder hetfield made an attempt to reconnect with his famous son and was even filmed in a brief interview for the band's 1992 two-part documentary, 'year and a half in the life of metallica,' which was based around the making of the group's 'the black album.' during hetfield's interview he unearths the emotional undertakings he faced while trying to re-establish a relationship with his father. "it feels so weird saying this but, i really tried to get close with him again ... get back together ... but it was never close. [it was] very surface-y." During that time, James Hetfield describes it as follows: James, born in 1963, his father, Virgil Hetfield, leaves home in 1976. Sixteen years later, in 1992, during the period of the Black Album when they started to gain a lot of fame and money, his father Virgil Hetfield suddenly reappears. During this time, he shows closeness to James and tries to benefit from him, taking money from him and constantly trying to be around him. However, this closeness doesn't translate to James. Between 1992 and 1996, this period turns into agony for James, along with childhood traumas. Virgil Hetfield dies in 1996, spending his last few years battling illness. This period from '92 to '96, marked by major emotional outbursts and dilemmas, coincides with the writing of the Load and Reload albums. It's a tumultuous period where you both hate and love, but you're uncomfortable with the falseness you see instead of the closeness and love you expected when he resurfaced, and you want him to leave but suffer because of it. And those are the words that spill out: it = he (his father) sleeps = die where do i take this pain of mine? i run, but he stays right by my side so tear me open, pour me out there’s things inside that scream and shout and the pain still hates me so hold me until he sleeps (die) just like the curse, just like the stray you feed him once and now he stays now he stays so tear me open but beware there’s things inside without a care and the dirt still stains me so wash me until i’m clean he grips you, so hold me he stains you, so hold me he hates you, so hold me he holds you, so hold me until he sleeps so tell me why you’ve (his father) chosen me don’t want your grip don’t want your greed don’t want it i’ll tear me open, make you (his father) gone no more can you (his father) hurt anyone and the fear (babası öleceği için) still shakes me so hold me until he sleeps he grips you, so hold me he stains you, so hold me he hates you, so hold me he holds you, holds you, holds you until he sleeps i don’t want him so tear me open but beware there’s things inside without a care and the dirt still stains me so wash me... till clean i’ll tear me open, make you (his father) gone no longer will you (his father) hurt anyone and the hate (to his father) still shapes me so hold me until he sleeps until he sleeps

I appreciate the topics you cover and the depth of research and thought that goes into them. One criticism I want to make is that this video would have been better served with either no soundtrack at all or one far more subdued. I think the purpose is to enhance and emphasize the visual component, but in this case it is out of sync with the content and at its worse irritating. Do keep up the good work, sir!

I didn't realize how similar Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield's upbringings were. James with Christian Science, DAve with Jehovah's Witnesses. Both felt like outsiders in school because of it.

Until it sleeps is about James's father. Neither himself not his mother... it means his father, sleep means die

Heres what i will say on the napster thing. I find it ironic that Lars was upset and wanted to stop and actually sue people for pretty much doing what they all did back in the day. They shared music all of the time. Would trade tapes, many of them bootlegs or live recordings with people from all over the world. Would mail a cassette tape to someone in hopes they would mail you something back in return. The only difference is technomogy has changed. Music was transerred to digital file instead of recorded on tape. Could email or upload and file share it instead of having to record it to a cassette tape and send it by mail. Lars got all upset because people were basically doing the same thing they all did as teens to share music.

"Was forced back into rehab". You went from saying there's no accountability in calling addiction a decease to stating you have no choice, taking away all accountability, to enter rehab. Make your mind up.

Great documentary, I’ve watched multiple docs but this one on Metallica is definitely one I learnt a lot from. It’s unfortunate that you didn’t get a lot views or likes as I can tell how much effort u put in.
