... kann mich gut daran erinnern, als ich Mitte der 70er die originale Langspielplatte hier in Deutschland/Bayern kaufte, noch ohne James Last, der hier sehr nahe dem Original kommt. Wenn nicht sogar besser. Im nachhinein besehen war es die beste Urfassung des Phillisounds. Spätere Kommerzialisierungen beinhalteten mir persönlich zu viel jammernde Geigenpassagen und weniger knackiger Bläsersätze. Habe damals 1975 meinen Vater überredet, ein Potpourie von drei Titel für das BR- Rundfunk-Tanzorchester zu Nürnberg (NTO) arrangieren zu lassen, wo mein Vater als Bassposaunist ständig mitwirkte. Die Titel blieben bis 1982 im Repertoire und wurden im öffentlich rechtlichen Rundfunk immer wieder ausgestrahlt. Leider war dann der wachsende vielfältige musikalische Einfluss auf Big Bands immens; und man hat sich oft zwei mal überlegt, ein teures Rundfunk-Arrangement zu bezahlen, dass bereits nach einem bis zwei Jahren - Schnee von Gestern - war, weil sich die Musik-Mode rasch veränderte, besonders in Europa mit Ihrer gängigen Schlagermusik, weit entfernt von Jazz und Soul-Musik zum Tanzen. Tanzmusik war am abklingen und nur wenige staatliche und sehr bekannte Orchester hatten das Privileg weiter auf betuchten Veranstaltungs-Bällen zu spielen.

... can remember it well when I bought the longplayer here in Germany / Bavaria in the mid-70s. In retrospect, it was the best original version of the Phillisound. Subsequent commercializations personally involved too much whining violin passages and less crisp fanfare. In 1975, I persuaded my father to arrange a potpourry of three titles for the Bavaria Radio Dance Orchestra in Nuremberg (NTO), where my father, as a bass trombonist, was constantly involved. The titles remained in the repertoire until 1982 and were repeatedly broadcast in public broadcasting. Unfortunately, then the growing diverse musical influence on big bands was immense; and it has often been considered twice to pay for an expensive broadcasting arrangement that, after only one to two years - was yesterday's snow - because the music scene was changing rapidly, especially in Europe with its popular pop music from jazz and soul music to dancing. Dance music was subsiding and only a few state and well-known orchestras had the privilege to continue to play at well-earned event balls.
