What a brilliant scholar! The elegance in his translations reflects the beauty and charm of the original Sanskrit.

So good to hear. I have tremendous admiration and respect for this brilliant yogi and scholar. Such a joy to hear him speak about yoga.

Thank you for this gift of wisdom and hard work, with a strong effort to avoid biases and let the text talk for itself. But it is a criptic subject, hardly unferstood for most people. Is there a way to give out a bigger chunk of the lecture? Dhanyavada! 🙏😌

Thanks for your comments and interest. I don't have a recording of the lecture at the moment. You can hear other Jim Mallinson lectures in the SOAS Centre for Yogic Studies program on KZbin.

Which comes first dharana or pratyahara?
@heatherelton13205 жыл бұрын
Pratyahara. Read Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.

The order is just of description, not of practice. And it only denotes what is more subtle and inward (internal). You should embrace the system as limbs (angas), which means they are meant to keep the practice "standing" (sthitiH) and do not fall apart. But, of course, it is harder to focus (dharana) without any introspection, which roots you in your Self (atma) and the object without getting distracted. But also a better focus allows greater introspection and so on.

He doesn't know a thing about Indic texts. Report it as misleading.
