I'm not sure I enjoyed it, because James clearly had a prejudice against toastie makers and then proceeded to use rubbish bread, rubbish butter, overfill it, put runny wet beans in it, use pre-grated cheese, and not cook it for long enough, and then complain that it wasn't very good.
@GitShiddyАй бұрын
Top tip don't use pre-grated cheese. Pre-grated cheese is covered in a starch, often potato, to keep the cheese from sticking however; when melting the starches interfere & cause an inconsistent gloopy mess of a texture and prevents proper melting.

It's just a small panini-press, yes. It's a staple in Danish households. You take ham and cheese between two slices of bread, smack it in there when the light is green, take it out when it looks sufficiently toasty. Ham and cheese toasty machine. You make the sandwich and then put it in. As a bonus; You can experiment with various thin cuts of meat in there. Sausage and dijon mustard is one I've found also works well. A thin layer on the dijon, though.

We would call this a Jaffle maker in Australia, because it allows for filling and seals the actual sandwich. Here a panini/press toaster is flat plate type. A lot of Australian households will either have one or both types at home depending on how patient they are when making them. We have both as the Jaffle maker is too small for some of the slices of bread.
@DuspendeАй бұрын
@@SaulGreatorixMusic You are right in that this isn't a true panini press. A true one that keeps the heating elements horizontal at all times is always a bit more expensive. This "cheap" version that you can usually get for around 40-45 AUD is just the bog standard that you would find in every home here in Denmark. You came home from school with your mates, threw off your backpacks, your mate asks if you'd like a "toast", you accept. That's how it went. Just two 12-13 year olds home alone after school, slapping a slices of ham and slices of individually wrapped cheese between two slices of bread. Into the "toaster", and that's it. All of that side; I don't know what would be a proper name for this device. Since it doesn't press explicitly from the top and down, but always at an angle.
@luminatrixfanfictionАй бұрын
Very British having beans in a toasted sandwich. Typically the best ingredients to use in a toastie is ham, cheese, sliced tomatoes with a light smattering of salt, pepper and herb sprinkle. And a good toasted sandwich maker, not the garbage ones. [Chef's kiss]. Merry Christmas James.
