JAMES MCAVOY PASSED OUT IN THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND

The last time we saw James McAvoy he was running around the forest dressed as a magical faun in The Chronicles of Narnia. In The Last King of Scotland he delves into more serious matters as the hand picked personal physician to Ugandan dictator Idi Amin played by Forest Whitaker. It's the 1970s and McAvoy's character has a taste for the women, not to mention one of Amin's wives. However Amin doesn't exactly suffer fools gladly and makes him pay for his betrayal in a very realistic torture scene

I find it disrespectful of the director that filming wasn't cancelled for that day. It was so horrific and like James said, it felt wrong to film a torture scene on a day like that. Obviously the show must go on but one day of not filming would've been fine.

Spoken like someone that wasn’t paying for any of it. There’s a reason they shoot movies the way they do and even one day delay can cost thousands of not hundreds of thousands of dollars in terms of paying the crew, rented equipment, food, hotels, etc... You act like there’s not a schedule and a budget...

I just saw the DVD, my heart felt like to stop at the torture part. He is such a great actor in this movie, so intense. After I knew he was really upset while filming that scene, I feel more heartbreaking.

i love the way James thought more carfully about his charecter and didnt just go with the script. (oh and i remember the london bombings, that was like a mini 9/11 for britain so kinda a big deal. it must have been hard to carry on filming with that going on.)

I thought James did so well in the torture scene. I liked when that single tear dropped as he was being strung up. I also think Forest Whitaker's single tear in that scene sealed the Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA for him.

Just been reading through these comments. Three things come to mind. 1) Yes, the commentator needs to go. 2) What's with all the questions about "why did he faint?" He EXPLAINS why he fainted in the video. So why the questions? and 3) Are you seriously asking if an actor actually had meathooks stuck into him and was hoisted up into midair for this role? Oh god is this the same narrator who was all like, "Jaames MaacAvoy plays quiite the lotharhhreoo"? Lol. Fortunately James's hotness is able to distract me from it most of the time. Also, I watched the movie and I nearly passed out watching said scene. It was even worse because he's so gorgeous, and hard to watch him getting tortured. I can't imagine trying to film that (he mentioned it had to be done cheaply, so he was basically hoisted up with ropes, and the horrid-looking prosthetic chest).

I will say the torture scene was quite disturbing which i was shocked by it when i was young at time watching The Last King of Scotland movie with my father and hearing James McAvoy talk about the torture scene did make him pass out and he did an absolute amazing job with that scene.

No, I doubt they actually strung JM up on meat hooks. That would be far too dangerous. James didn't think Nicholas was strong enough to keep from screaming and felt the only way Nicholas would not have screamed would have been to hold his breath and therefore that is what McAvoy did. Holding his breath for too long in addition to the stress of the day because of bombings in London probably were what caused him to pass out.

Terrible voice over. THEY NEED TO HIRE SOMEONE ELSE!!!! McAvoy is so dedicated. Sad to hear how difficult it was to do the torture scene. A torture scene wouldn't be that comfortable, but you don't want them to get really hurt. I've not yet scene it. Sounds like you would feel as though you're being beaten along with him. The character seems like a decent guy so seeing this will be hard for me, but after hearing how great James and Forest are in this movie. I'm going to buy it as soon as I can.
