Elizabeth kisses Jack. Jack gets swallowed by the Kraken. Elizabeth kisses Sao Feng. Sao Feng gets killed by a cannonball. Elizabeth kisses Norrington. Norrington gets stabbed. Elizabeth kisses Will. Yes James Norrington was actually the true hero if you look at the series, his love was greater than the love William Turner and Jack Sparrow had. Jack was more shallow which is why his compass did not work. William was divided and so ended up divided between the physical and spiritual, love with Elizabeth and service to the Flying Dutchman. But James Norrington first served the physical, but when he saw the truth he changed, for his heart was one of love..and so he sacrificed his physical life for the spiritual and true love. James Norrington was the real hero of the 3, though Jack Sparrow was obviously the most entertaining and William Turner the guy most would think to chose and like. But William Turner was a fool. For he essentially chose the path of Davy Jones..and we all know how he ended up. My two favorite characters in the series is James Norrington and Hector Barbossa for I think they are the true heroes. But the most entertaining I think is hector Barbossa and Jack Sparrow :)

+zyzor I like his character, but blindly following orders is not equal to meaning well. It just means he's loyal to his superiors and probably cares about his reputation more than anything else. If it wasn't for his love "Elizabeth" getting involved with these pirates he would've done everything in his power to make sure they were hanged. Not too mention he tried to do that as well even though she owed her live to the pirates. I get it was his duty but he was very eager and unmerciful, it was eventually the father of Elizabeth that suggested a pardon because he was grateful that her daughter was still alive.
@reconx868 жыл бұрын
Just Getting By The pirate in this case "Jack Sparrow" went out of his way to save "Elizabeth Swan", to reward him with a death-sentence shows he's just to keen to follow orders and kill anyone that resembles one. Considering also this was going to be his future wife that he might've lost forever, he could've very least show some restraint that this might not be the right thing to do. Some people forget that when it comes down too it, we are all people and even criminals have a conscience and moral values, there are some that don't... but hey there are many "innocent civilians" that don't either.

Norrington’s death is actually the most tragic one compared to the others. He went by the rule book, loyal to the British Royal Navy, and had a close relationship with Elizabeth’s father. When Lord Beckett took control, he was caught between his duties and his love for Elizabeth. This scene certainly redeemed himself where he would rather sacrifice himself rather than being a pawn for Beckett.

Saddest death in the movie. Norrington was a good man, brave and honourable. He really did love Elizabeth and wanted her to be happy. "Do you fear death?" Why would he? The thing I like most about Norrington is that he can face his fate like a man. I mean that when he sees that he can’t make it he does everything to remain honorable. He did it in the end of the first movie when he understood that Elizabeth loved Will and James let her go. He did it in this moment when he didn’t try to run for his life and accepted the fact that there was no escape for him. And even when he was dying he didn’t try to make a deal with Davy to stay alive, instead he kind of told him to go to hell.

"Go. I *will* follow." "Youre lying." "Our destinies have been entwined Elizabeth, but never joined." James is such a conflicted character. A good man who's forced to work for the devil. He wants to be with Elizabeth, but knows he cannot. In the end his good nature overcame his sense of duty, because he couldn't follow the orders of evil men. Godspeed James Norrington

This was definitely the saddest death in the first three movies I have watched so far and I can’t seem to shake it idk why. I think it’s because the movie made him seem bad but he really was and is a kind man. Also even thought it’s not real it still makes me want to cry knowing he saved Elizabeth’s and her friends even after she chose will

Norrington dies: **Royal Navy Heart of Oak plays in the distance** Two lines of British redcoats of the Royal Marines tip their tricorns and hold them to their heart, before returning them and volley fire in a ground to air crossfire salute him over each others heads... The ghosts of the crew of the HMS Dauntless lost in the hurricane he sailed into when chasing after Jack join with him again. **Royal Marines Abide With Me Evening Post and the Last Hymn plays loudly** (yes slightly anachronistic but I don't care it works) British Union banners dip. Iron braziers of glowing fire flicker in the bitter breeze. This POTC universe Royal Navy mourns a fictional hero; the British redcoats present arms, about turn, march in lock-step lines out of the parade ground, leaving it empty to only the whisper of the wind. Candles are lit in the nearby chapel to pay respect to a fallen hero. Sailors generally feel depressed in their quarters later for some time, and remember how good they had it under the command of Norrington, an honourable gentlemen, rather than the grasping, cruel likes of Lord Beckett... A bronze statue or two to Norrington is raised in Port Royal town and fort, to commemorate the man who almost completely defeated the pirates of the Caribbean in his tenure as the senior naval commander in the fleet, and a man who more than once helped protect the citizens. Now that would be a more fitting British style send off for poor old Norrington...(rather than probably just dumped overboard for the sharks by this lot) =.=

I felt like Norrington had a lack of focus in the third film. After his big part in the second film I was hoping that they'd continue it in a useful way. It felt like the only reason he was in it at all was to explain how Elizabeth escaped more than it did continue his storyline.

JsemTricky Yeah and they also cut out almost all of the governor's scenes
@semperfi23143 жыл бұрын
There's a deleted scene where Jones tells the Governor that Elizabeth died when the kraken took down the pearl. The Governor then tries to stab the heart and there's a whole scene where Jones tells him that if he does that, he'll be the next cursed captain and all. Anyway, the point is that Norrington learns about the "death" of Elizabeth, and Beckett is like "yeah oops i forgot to tell you that". There are some amazing 3 seconds there where Norrington just looks at Beckett and you can see how much he hates him. Amazing character
@itachi28162 жыл бұрын
There were originally many more scenes planned for him, where they would show Norrington starting slowly to regret the choice he made at the end of the second movie, until that moment where he finally decides to go against what he was, follow what his morals were saying was right and save the person he loved and had sworn to protect years ago. Some of these scenes even started shooting(you can find some of them on the internet), but never made it to the final cut of the movie for some reason. They had even planned a part of the narrative that would show Davy Jones and Norrington creating a kind of unexpected and weird friendship due to the hatred they both felt for Beckett(although that part of the narrative never made it to the recordings apparently). It's a shame that in the end they ended up cutting so much of his stuff from the movie. But anyway, although i agree it could have been better, I still liked his conclusion.

James has a pretty good story imo. In COTBP we see him as a powerful, honorable man. Even if he opposes Jack, he's not a villain by a long shot. In between COTBP and DMC, he falls from glory and loses everything. We see how he's forced to work under Jack, in the most humiliating position he's ever been in, and we sympathise with him. But James' desire to get his old life back grows so strong, he is blinded from other things, giving Jones' heart to Beckett and allowing himself to become Beckett's puppet. But Elizabeth, the woman James never stopped loving, called him out on his mistakes, and James finally searches for real redemption. He proves he still has honor by not only going agsinst Beckett, knowing his intentions are evil, but also by sacrificing himself for the good guys, and most importantly, his love.

Norrington is a role model for every man. Good, honourable and courageous. Only Jack Davenport could have nailed the role.

From the official Pirates companion book, norrington rose through the ranks and as a commodore he couldn’t risk showing any emotion in front of his crew as a leader and over the years it made him distant emotionally, even in personal affairs. for someone like elizabeth who hated the restraint of her elizabethian life and wanted adventure she couldn’t bear those qualities, even if he was a respectable man. but moments like these you can see that he did really care for her, he also shows an odd moment of affection right before he died. also when will and elizabeth are together you can tell how distraught he looks seeing them, even when he tries to mask it :’( rip norrington my fave

What I find nice about this scene that NOBODY talks about is Jones. Even after Norrington betrayed the BEIC and him, he still offered him a spot in his crew due to his skill and likely their mutual hatred of Jack.

I believe James Norrington is returning for Pirates 5, because apparently one of the lead characters in it are a ghost (hence the title, dead men tell no tales) and that ghost worked for the British Military so I believe Norrington is coming back as a ghost.

And this scene sets up the greatest hidden piece of irony in the movies. Will, as a blacksmith, made a sword for Norrington’s promotion to commodore in the first movie. Beckett returns that sword to him at the start of this movie, saying “a new post deserves an old friend”. He stabs Davy Jones with that sword here, where Davy Jones removes it and looking at it with an appreciative eye, decides to keep it for himself. In the final battle, he stabs Will with it, killing him. Ergo, Will was killed by one of the very swords he made during his time as a blacksmith.

I'm rewatching this trilogy again and I actually find myself caring way more about James than I used to. His character arc is one of (if not the) most tragic arcs in the trilogy. All he was really guilty of was loving a woman who didn't love him back. We've all been there at one point or another. He was a good man who protected the people he loved and that got him discharged and ultimately, killed
