He made some dodgy claims himself, such as downplaying the incident with the Sky News crew (they chased the crew with a knife) and failing to understand that every asylum seeker whose claims are rejected is an illegal immigrant. Even many of those whose claims are accepted shouldn't be here. Many are either from countries where there aren't any major human rights abuses (like Morocco) or they lie in the applications after coaching from lawyers (many of them driven by open border ideologies).

I live in Australia where there is very little racial tension at the moment. There have been a few incidents over the years but media hype has been largely contained. Unfortunately, I have still had to watch some of my friends adopt right wing perspectives in response to much of the nonsense on the internet. These far right echo chambers are really a blight on society.

Hi there, Alien. I get the impression that Ausy society is reasonably (or comparatively) cohesive and stable at the moment. However, perhaps if you begun to experience more wealth inequality, as we are now in the UK, where millions of people now live in actual poverty, the middle class can no longer afford housing, while only 3% (or less) of the population hold 90+% of the nation's wealth, then you are more likely to see an increase in blame being projected at minorities especially those who can't defend themselves. I will say this, part of what is really playing on peoples emotions is the fact WE HAVE NO IDEA why the suspect did what he did. One of the most despicable & awful crimes in our modern history and we have no clue whatsoever what possessed him to get a taxi and specifically target these girls. As soon as the Kyle Clifford story broke, I was outraged and I googled "Kyle Clifford Motive" when I saw one of the victims was his ex-girlfriend, it didn't make me less angry but it provided me with some sense of comprehension, with AR, it's very difficult as we have no answers at all yet and that empty vaccum of information is a breeding ground for misinformation and speculation.
