Uri getting caught off guard on Carson should be enough to prove to people he's always been a charlatan. Like Randi always said, when controls are applied and the bullshit is eliminated, the psychic powers are suddenly not there.

That’s my VERY FAVORITE Johnny Carson episode EVER!! I am a HUGE James Randi fan. Have been following his career debunking phony “psychics & mind readers” since I was fortunate enough to stumble onto his videos. Loosing James Oct 20, 2020, the world is a less interesting place! 😔. If I could have one wish come true in the debunking genre, it would be great to have Mr. Randi back 😊 Never having children, as James was gay, he was unable to pass on his talent & magical gifts to retain his legacy 😕 James, IF you had the capability to see my comment, you were a treasure & will NEVER be forgotten 😊
@RightfootWestHam
@RightfootWestHam 8 ай бұрын
You think that... But I was not able to convince a single "sceptic" from the JREF the issues with these tests, even though I pointed it out to them. People are not that easy to teach unless they want to learn. James Randi is a bigger "charlatan" then Uri ever was ... yet almost no one understands it. Kinda like the Rona. ~88% of my country got vaccinated, in vain.
@BrianHenson95

I was reading James Wikipedia and I saw this quote by Geller "That Johnny Carson show made Uri Geller," Geller said. To an enthusiastically trusting public, his failure only made his gifts seem more real: if he were performing magic tricks, they would surely work every time."

@@BrianHenson95 This is what they had to do in order to adapt to scrutiny and debunkers. The most common defense for why these "powers" fail when tested is that they're sentient and refuse to show themselves to nonbelievers. In effect, one must already believe in order to see the "truth." It's a very common psychological defense mechanism employed to protect oneself from looking/feeling foolish. As the phrase goes, it's easier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled.

When has it ever been good tho, they hung women and accused them of being witches for being able to read back in the day, nothing has gotten worse or better. In fact from what I've seen, I see a lot more awake people now than any time then. We all just need to stop listening to hollywood, music industry, and especially the MEDIA. Then we can all be on the same page again. It's the media that has made everyone dumber down. If it weren't for such oppression, and manipulation, plus the robbing of our hard earned money every year, we would be much more progressed.

What always bugged me about Uri is, okay you can bend spoons, and you can make a compass wobble. You have incredible supernatural powers. And what do you do? You bend spoons and make a compass slightly wobble. WTF are you doing? You have the powers of a Wizard! You could make the guns fall from the murderer's hand. You could conjure food for the starving. You could generate power to warm the cold and suffering. But you spend your time ridiculously playing around with cutlery or making simple household repairs. As a wizard, that's pretty pathetic.

I can bend a key so that it no longer opens doors!" "Great, but can you do anything useful?" "I can make a seed grow very slowly. And if you wind a broken clock when I'm on tv, it might work for a bit." Also, why does he need to touch the spoon at all, let alone rub it? To help his mind bend it?? Do you know what's the craziest defense of Geller I have ever read, by some kind of journalist or such? The defense was that even though magicians can accurately replicate all of Geller's tricks, Geller must still be doing it genuinely rather than using some trick because Geller fails sometimes. The argument was that if he was using a trick, he would never fail, but since he's doing it genuinely, he sometimes fails. And yes, that was written in response to Geller's appearance in the Tonight Show, where he failed to do anything because he didn't have his own props. They genuinely consider failing to be a sign that he's the real thing.
@hihunter7
@hihunter7 2 жыл бұрын
@Particular Psalmody Well not exactly, because continued failure is something anyone can do. By being mostly successful, he shows proficiency in accomplishing the trick but by not being 100% it could suggest, at least to the bozo who wrote the statement, that his psychic powers weren't a trick, or he wouldn't ever fail after having it mastered. But like the other guy said, that's a pretty flawed logic when he failed after not getting to use his own props, not seemingly randomly. And even then, what does it really prove when anyone can do it?

Who keeps a non-working TV for a year? Day 364: "I'm sitting here in the living room looking at the TV. A cloud of confusion and dismay has moved in and changed my mood. Previously I felt optimistic about the fate of this TV. Now, though, I fear I may have only a day or two left with this broken TV. My thoughts dart back and forth desperately searching for a solution, but ultimately it feels as if I'm sinking in quicksand and there's no way out. I realize I cannot keep this 27-inch once-magical-box around forever - this black box of technological innovation that has brought me so much pleasure - but it truly has become a part of me. I'm not sure I can let it go."
