I have a 1st Gen JRA BM-59 (7yrs) beautiful rifle grest shooter I'm fortunate. Please one question. My owners manual states in ammunition usage. Only Nato Spec M-80 Ball 7.62. Reason given, hard powerful extraction can strip heads off thinner brass comercial types. Is this still a caveat?? Greetings from Tennessee. Thanks CC

@randyadams03 yes, the reason for this is the garand gas system. The m14 has a self regulated gas system that vents off excessive gas allowing commercial M1A derivatives with the proper headspace to safely fire 308, but the BM59 uses the same M1 garand long stroke gas system that doesnt vent any excessive gas, the BM59 also has a shortened extractor to clear the magazine feed lips that can exasperate the issue with commercial 308.

@Commonwealthcollector thank you ,for detailed explanation. When I got mime years ago found great deal on Lithuanian GGG M-80 . Thought I'd over done it. In retrospect was a golden choice. Happy safe shooting, from Tennessee
