THEY AWARDED TYRA THE CROWN, yet act as though Tyra stole it. Whether you think Raven should have won is irrelevant, bcz the winner doesn't choose herself. If you want to be mad, be mad at the judges or RuPaul. The same was true for Trixie and Shangela. Whomever you thought should have won, Trixie was completely innocent, so why send her hate? Why send ANYONE hate. Get a fucking life. No first get an enema, then a fucking life.

I've noticed something recently: James/Tyra is almost like the Lauryn Hill of Drag. Both of them showed a lot of promise and potential when they started out, with Lauryn getting tons of critical appraisal and fandom for both her work in the Fugees and with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and Tyra winning Drag Race and even helping to inspire some unique ideas for the show (yea, she was doing two-in-one outfits before Violet Chachki). And both in general are/were exceptionally talented artists who could really bring it when they're on good runs. That said, as time went on, they became more and more secluded and put out less and less material. Their behavior and character indicated that there was something really going wrong with their personal lives, and their declining mental states pointed at the different backlashes both received around the time of their breakthroughs. With Lauryn, it was the MTV Unplugged thing, her showing up extremely late to concerts (and sometimes chastising people for applauding or telling them to get refunds), and her prison stint. With Tyra, it was the DragCon thing and her feuds with other alums of the show. And yet with all those times, it pointed to something wrong with their mental states, likely accumulated from the backlash and hard times they went through. At least that's how I see it.

I feel sorry for Tyra. She sure had her share of responsibility but we really have to ask ourselves how WE would react being so mistreated... I'm a content creator on social media and I'll tell you that the amount of hate people will throw at you for absolutely no reason is insane, I can only imagine how it was for Tyra to have the fandom instigated to throw her hate, time and time again... It's one thing TO KNOW the "right way" to react under these circumstances but actually GOING THROUGH it is something else.

Personally the obvious top two of season 2 were Tyra and Raven. Neither of them were that likeable and I wasnt rooting for either of them. However Tyra had MUCH better runways and of the two, she was the deserved winner. I do agree with Tyra that Raven and Jujubee seem to be have given many more opportunities after that season. I do remember seeing the video where Tyra was seated at the end of the panel and then Raven ran in late and sat in the middle of the same panel. I thought it was very strange as Tyra was the winner and raven wasn’t of season 2. It felt disrespectful to Tyra in my opinion. I do understand why Tyra feels underwhelmed by the treatment they received from WOW.

Self reflection for WHAT!? They don’t have to apologize for their reactions to hate and vitriol. Nothing that James did or said was unprovoked. How about Raven, Michelle & other season 2 queens doing some self reflection and publicly supporting him? The burden is always placed on black people when we’re mistreated.

Yeah, that's what gets to me. He strikes me as someone who is still deeply hurt and feeling slighted for things that were not personal attacks (many of those same things happened to Bebe, for example). And instead of reflecting upon the situation objectively, he's still feeling the stings as if they just happened. Even when he acknowledges incidents like the Morgan situation, he frames it as if it's justified as self-defense instead of considering that he might have had a hand in making a situation worse. It's unfortunate, but probably part of his self-defense mechanism at this point.

I think a big problem in this case is the phenomena of black people/youth being assumed to be and treated as older than they are. For example in the US it's well documented that black adolescents who have committed a crime get "tried as adults" at a higher rate than their white counterparts. The fandom can be extremely toxic to everyone, but i find Tyra's treatment hard to imagine being allowed to happen to a 21 y/o *white* twink like the twins for example, who remind most viewers of the neighbors, little brother or nephew, classmate, etc. I will not coddle her in some of her reactions to some of the treatment, but even so, she was (to me) a freaking BABY when this shit went down. Says a lot not only about the fandom, but also age&fame in general. Like I'm so glad there's no record of who I was and how I responded to things in my early 20s lol. A lot of fans don't see this bc they're young themselves and *think* they're mature and handling things well... yet in 5 years, they'll look back and🥴 Glad Tyra came back to drag on her own terms. Also glad when she answered about whether she'd go back on drag race or not. I believe she made the right call - I only see similar things happening.

Tyra won S2 fair and square, miles ahead of Raven,. It was a different show back then. However, the constant pandering by Raven, Raja & Michelle Visage… especially how she was treated @ that S2 panel reunion @ Drag.con. Raven should have graciously told the audience member that told Raven she was the rightful winner that got the crowd cheering for her. “Thank you very much for your sentiments, but our Queen and Winner, who’s on the panel today, is Tara Sanchez, please join me in giving her a round of applause. If I had to be the 1st runner up to any Quern. I’m glad it was Tara Sanchez, because she is fierce competitor” However, the only interview statement I took issue with King James, was when he stated he didn’t know or never met Raja. There must be a slip in his memory, because he sure enough stood right next to S3 Winner, Raja @ every Finale event, when Ru would bring out previous Season winners on to the stage from S4 to S8 to welcome in the new winner. There are plenty of pictures of Tara standing next to Raja.

Idgaf , I loved tyra, it was juju bee and Raven and Tatiana. They were jealous of her boogie, and they wouldn't let it down. ( tyra told the bitches from the get go) It wasn't an option for her to go back home broke , ) I feel like they didn't respect that, they will never be able to Orford like tyra, ( stop talking Bout it do your thing sis)

Getting along with the people you work with is usually part of the job. It’s also unfair to think that being crowned the winner means other queens from you season can’t flourish post tv show.

It's very important to get along with the people you work with and it important that your employer engage with you. And if you are the lead on the team you should be treated as such.

I didn’t intentionally miss anything. To clarify, I liked Tyra during her season and wish her nothing but the best. I believe her that some shady stuff happened post the show with WOW. I just think it’s also a little naive to think that being the winner means success is going to be thrown at you post show. The only things guaranteed are the prizes. The most successful queens, winners and now winners, found the most success doing their own things post show, Ie Alaska, Willam, Trixe and Katya, Violet, Sasha Velour, Peppermint, Bianca, Bob and Monet, the list goes on. As the seasons progressed the standard and talent has gotten insane as the audience as also expanded. In my opinion, Trya never found something to truly set her apart. From this interview it also seems to me that she doesn’t have much business savvy or clarity on what skills she should focus on. It’s the jack off all trades master of none syndrome. I think she would greatly benefit from having a team behind her, but then again you need to get along with people for that. I found there to be such a lack of nuanced understanding in her explaining things. Like you need to be able to recognize the mistakes you made.

Re-watching season two, and her behaviour was despicable. I am surprised he won the season, although I suspect why.
