Күн бұрын

In this restored footage of "James Taylor In Concert," James performs the traditional British "Greensleeves“ on the popular BBC series ‘In Concert‘ on November 16, 1970.
"In Concert" was produced by the BBC in the early '70s and featured performances from legendary acts of the time. In November 1970, James was 22 years old and his second studio album, "Sweet Baby James," had released earlier that same year.

James, one of my favorite songs that you ever did was “Long Ago and Far Away”. It was one of those songs you hear and instantly know it’s going to be one of your favorites. It has such a beautiful melody and you sang it like no one else could. It was so sweet and calming, and I loved the girl’s voice toward the end. I wish we could see a live performance of it. It’s the sweetest song and I never felt it got the attention it deserved.

The ‘girl’s voice’ at the end of the song was someone called Joni Mitchell. Never heard of her myself, have you?!!...

Harmonically and rhythmically sophisticated. MAYBE more than the writing and spot-on singing is the musicianship that I have always admired the most about JT. But then again maybe it's the writing and spot-on singing...

Beautiful, James. And this video reveals your shyness. . .I met you at McCormick Place in Chicago before your concert there. The year was 1967, and I was 21 then. You were very shy, but so kind to me, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. You’re a gift to the world of music, which brings positivity even in difficult times. . .❤️ Love from Iowa, ~ Lori Parrish Niemi ~

Hey James! Did that J-50 have the “Adjustable Bridge”? Two chrome screws at either end of the bridge - could turn to raise and lower the action of the strings. Mine does. I also have the burgundy tortoise pick guard. My Dad bought it in 1963, then gave it to me later in 1969, when I was 11. He played it in ‘63 - had a fascination with Peter, Paul, and Mary - Puff the magic dragon, etc. I really got going on the J-50 when I was 12, listening to James Taylor - “Country Road” - yeah, take to the highway, won’t you lend me your name ..... that kinda stuff. Thanks James, for getting me inspired back then.

I saw JT on St. Patrick's Day 1971, in Dallas. He was playing a J-50, I was about to graduate high school, and I had some savings and a few gifts of money. Of course, I rushed out and bought a J-50, a 1970-made guitar. I'm so glad yours was a good one -- mine was awful! I had it more than 40 years, and finally sold it a few years back. I'm currently playing Martins and Breedloves, guitars made in this country that are so much better than the overbuilt junkers the companies were turning out to meet the demand of guitar-crazy kids like I was in 1971. And I'm still working on my own version of JT's "Greensleeves" . . .

Although I'm sure I'm in the majority of subscribers who are really pleased with the release of these selections from the BBC 'In Concert' Special from 1970 - there must be something that's genuinely rare or unreleased in the Archive / Vault that was much lauded by JT earlier last month?.......
