James toney will fight anyone. He didn't like to do road work, jump rope, heavybag, or speed bag, and no calisthenics, he just loved sparring and that's it. That's how he prepared for all of his fights.

and thats exactly what led to his quick demise as a heavyweight. Since he didnt have to make weight anymore, he no longer did the required training that all pro boxers do to stay in shape, and thats why he struggled with lesser fighters like Rahman, Peter etc.

Just a side note, both corners were saying the same thing at the end of the fight. Rahmans corner said Rahman needed to win the 12th round and James Toney corner said Toney had to win the last round. It's called trying to motivate a fighter & James Toney's corner was more confident throughout the fight for sure. Freddie Roach always tries to get Toney motivate Toney for the 12th round because he knows Toney always has a lot left. Toney's one of those guys that can turn it on whenever he wants.

If you watched the whole fight, it was clear Toney had a horrible camp. He was on cruise control the entire fight and never could take control of it. He should've lost but was lucky to receive a draw.

Truth! The judges were likely thinking about the money they had been paid to prevent Rahman from winning, rather than actually watching and scoring the fight. Rahman boxed the turkey stuffing out of Toney in this one. If you watch Rahman's second fight with Tua, it was very similar. I scored both 117-111 for Rahman.

As far as the negative agendas detrimental impact other than this fight,If Toney had won the 1st or 2nd Griffin fight,he would likely have had his rematch with Jones & or other big fights & pay days around light heavyweight before moving to cruiser & heavyweight as that was the plan all along for Toney.They thru in the Thadzi loss to ensure the agenda forcing him to move up in weight for good.Toney schooled Peter twice & everybody has fought a Klitchko except the best fighter of the era...

The idea that Toney could have beaten the Klitschko's is silly. Neither of the brothers were inside fighters, Toney's best attribute, and they would simply clinch, placed their weight upon Toney to tire him, until broken up by the ref and simply jabbed their way to victory. Plus Toney did not have the firepower to stop these young guys. This comment pisses off some people but Toney, throw out his KO of a washed up Holyfield, never KOed a top notch heavyweight. His power, despite his weight, was simply not world class at the heavyweight division. Floyd Patterson weighed less than Toney and Chris Byrd, two small modern heavies, but Patterson knew how to get leverage into his punches. Weight or size is not an indication of power, but technique is. In my humble opinion Toney should have stayed at cruiserweight. At heavyweight he made noise and nothing else in a division he could have never ruled.

listen man u can't give james toney that decision thats highway robbery.. rahman was busy with his jab and completely out worked james toney and won in ring generalship, effective aggressiveness. I think toney landed more clean shots than roy jones jr when they fought but when u come in out of shape, and get outworked, youre gunna lose. james toney never loses because the other guy is better than him.. he always beats himself
