Some of the gangsters are alright, they're not all bad. In fact some are genuinely reformed. But I agree some just want an easy life where they can brag about stabbing people and rely on cheap tactics to get respect.

Not really. He sat down and did a deal with the Cali Cartel who were just as bad if not worse than Pablo and still traffic people and drugs to this day. So unless you think dealing with murdering drug dealing criminals just to catch one other mudering drug dealer just so you can earn some money is a good thing, you are very wrong. Also brutish forces have no business in columbia anyway and the pilot lost his leg in this same mindless pursuit of money. I dont call that clever or good in any way.

Agreed 100%. My dad served 18 years in the Argyll's. One of his friends who served alongside him ( who became a family friend ) decided to join the SAS. He was a tough, tough loyal man... but also the kindest gentleman you could meet. Long after retiring they all kept in touch... regularly having get togethers. Once, one of them had their house broken into and Army medals and other memorabilia were stolen. By this time most were over 60 years old, but you could still see the steel in the eyes. Needless to say every single piece stolen was retrieved, no police involved.. they sorted it out themselves quietly and quickly. I asked my dad how they got the stuff back, he said..doesn't matter how. Hard men all of them, but not one of them a bully.

Fair play James for having Peter on, as I'm sure you know this interview is just a taster of Peter's life and achievements. His book is very candid and doesn't shy away from the dark truths of war, which many avoid and turn into a semi- fantasy, palatable for the gormless masses out there , who are often truly clueless. Last but by no means least I had the privilege to know his sister and one of his granddaughters a few years back and with hand on heart can say two of the finest , warmest and most honest people I have ever known. From fine stock indeed ! Best wishes x

I wish James had spent some time talking about the pathfinder in Rhodesia- Peter mentioned them a few times throughout- they are know as the most successful light infantry unit ever formed. Amzing; they lived off the land, won just about ever battle. I know a guy who was a sniper with them and a Rhodesian. Theres a book on the pathfinder I'd recommend for anyone interested and it talks alot about Peter as he was then. He's a well respected man who'd mellowed into a real gentleman. Best to him.
