I wish more people would first time this very much overlooked song. There's a video that goes along with this. You won't be disappointed in watching it. They play it behind the band on a big screen when in concert.

Rush has so many great songs, it's so hard to pick ! There's a song from the early 90's, a lesser known song that I think is great, Everyday Glory. It's just about regular people trying to do the right thing, taking accountability, and trying to make the world a better place .

Congrats on knowing what it was about. You said the lyrics were obvious but that is only the case if you know your history. I saw another reactor who had no clue what this song was about can only assume no knowledge that Atom Bomb. I was just starting typing a comment to say rising sun = Japan when you caught that :).

The Chinese name for Japan is "the land of the rising sun". Japan's flag is a red circle against a white background, symbolizing the sun. "Shot down the rising sun." is a clever way to describe Japan's forced surrender due to the two bombs which were detonated in Japan within 3 days. There were plans to drop a third bomb (a second Fat Man bomb) two weeks later (Aug 19) if they hadn't surrendered, and it is rumoured that the target would have been Tokyo.
