In this video, Associate Professor of Sociology James Cook stands in an office room and thinks about the "affordances" of the room as a physical object -- what it allows a person using the room to do and what it prevents a person in the room from doing. Think about this as an analogy that might be helpful when thinking about social media affordances: like rooms, social media platforms are places that have features which make some kinds of behavior and interaction easier... and some kinds harder.
