You inspired me to grow my very own food forest 2 in fact one is in my back garden I have been grown for just about 6 years almost everything is in containers as I want to move and have my own piece of land to put that directly into the ground because where I stay the people around don't appreciate or like plants unfortunately and it is doing not too bad also very close to me as an unused piece of land myself and my son have been planting seeds in it for 3 years now lots of apple seeds cherry seeds plum seeds and some other seeds I wonder if it will actually grow into a natural fit Forest what do you think do you know anyone who has tried it in the past to just get an unused piece of land and put as many fruit seeds to see what happens please excuse any spelling mistakes as registered blind and use speech to a text one of the other reasons I am trying to grow my own food because of all the chemicals put on the fruit look at the gates Foundation with renew phone call appeal lead arsenic and only mostly bad stuff on it makes it more difficult to eat store bought food as it is laced with chemicals and toxic stuff growing your own as good and I hope my natural food forest in a few years actually starts growing some apples and fruit naturally

James, I’m a bit of a late bloomer-only started gardening three years ago. Today, I noticed some store-bought mushrooms that were past their prime, and as I gathered ingredients for my salad, I realized I was out of garlic and onion. I checked my garden and pulled an incredible garlic bulb and my first Walla Walla onion! It hit me then-nothing beats the joy of growing your own food. Thank you for all the inspirational videos you share. You've kept me going even when I felt like giving up. And by the way, if Tuck ever gets to be too much, he’s welcome to come live with me! 😊

So awesome to hear you mention mizuna... I have my aerogarden full up on mizuna right now and have 2 transplants from it already outside hardening. I'm in north jerz and it's been record-breaking hot where I am this year, thankfully we've been getting some rain finally. For those that don't know, good mizuna is the perfect green to go with your prized tomatoes on a BLT. After that it's just raising your own bacon and chickens for mayo... then growing some wheat for the bread flour, then you're a self-sustaining BLT farm!

Central California, also 9B. Still too hot for us too. Do you even get a frost? Some years we don't, or only 1 or 2 nights. The charts say November but usually not before December 19th. But it is nice to be outside on Christmas day in shorts and sandals. 😊
@doinacampean91322 ай бұрын
For gardeners who feel as enthusiastic and energetic as James, it's worth talking about the NPK. High N is for fast leafy growth, so you can move the seedlings into their forever home as soon as possible, and will be great for lettuce, swiss chard, kale, etc. High P aids in root development and flower budding, so, if your radish or beet has a lot of greens but not much of a bulb, there's not enough phosphorus in your soil (think fish - actually any animal eyes). High K ensures your your flower buds will actually flower and, if pollinated will ripen on time - in case you plant peas (that are not for shoots), or beans or cucumbers, or other fruiting plants. And by "high" I mean high-ER, but not as high as to burn your plants. :)

Absolutely love beets planted some about 3 weeks ago and planted another row today, also planted swiss chard 3 weeks ago also. My cucumbers and zucchini did horrible this year, my tomatoes are so loaded they are pulling my tomato cages over so have to keep finding poles to hold them up. Also planted green beans germinated laid on a wet paper towel 2 weeks ago they are up a good 3 inches already.

@johnlord83372 ай бұрын
If one grows (in raised beds or flatlander gardening) a raised row (barrow) method, then establish the W -E axis laid barrow, and plant the sun-loving (warm) crops with short height on the south side. The taller (and colder crops) with taller heights plant on the north side, as their height above the barrow won't harm them when they are small and growing past the barrow height. Their stronger, younger growth height further supports the higher plant stalk and vine at higher elevation. If you have an east-end vegetable (early morning sun, minimal afternoon and evening sun and heat) or west-end vegetable (late afternoon sun, and higher sun and heat) you can maximize those ends for growing opportunities as well. If you barrow a raised garden with the N-S axis, then use the east-end and west-end concept as the east-side will be those early morning growing crops, while the west-side will be the late afternoon growing crops. With the barrow method you have more growing surface with both sides and top of the barrow (and the barrow ends) to plant on, versus everybody at the same level. The barrow method is a garden food forest canopy concept in small size.

I’ve had success with sprouting seeds by direct sowing, then place an old white T-shirt on top, then water. They will get light and the material holds in the moisture. Once sprouted remove material and throw in the wash. I’m sure a yard of Tshirt material would last a long time.
