This blew me away. Probably the most succinct explanation of proper adjustment. Following the info in this video I alleviated a ton of issues. Turns out my cleats were nearly a full inch forward of where they should be - and my feet were suffering horribly for it. By the end of a 20 mile ride my feet were sore and the toes were numb. Now all of that pain is gone. Amazing how one simple adjustment changes the whole experience.

Thank you SO much for posting this! I am trying clipless pedals for the first time ever (after 37 years of Mountain Biking) and I was pretty nervous about it, but this guide got me spot-on, first time. I got the Crank Brothers Candy one pedals, and after following your tutorial, everything worked out perfectly! I went out on my usual training loop this morning, and I now can't believe I waited so long to go clipless.

Great video. I'm on my first pair of cycling shoes. I checked a lot of my favourite bike channels and this was the best explainer I found. Using a straight edge to get an idea of where the cleat is going to be was the really helpful hint I was looking for. Thanks.

This is great info. But I always set my float (rotational alignment) so that the inward float (heels in) stops just before my shoes make contact with my chain stays when the cranks are pointed aft. The degrees of total float are enough to accommodate any difference in my natural foot angle. I don’t see a need to tune that per foot as long as your natural foot position falls within the float range.

Appreciate your video. At 4:10 you show where you place it just behind the straight edge. However, as soon as you get it set you remove the straight edge so it makes it quite difficult to understand how far behind the straight edge it should be placed. So the screws are just barely showing?
@xBenefitx9 күн бұрын
Agreed this part was a little unclear. I assume the screws need to be behind the screwdriver line? He says “cleat” but it looks like the screws need to be behind the line.

Once you've determined ideal cleat position, place a small dab of grease into each of the captive nuts on the base of your shoe and then use a torque wrench with 4 mm hex bit to tighten the bolts to SHIMANO's recommended torque setting of 5-6Nm (43-52 IN LB) (Shimano source)

I’m curious to see a review on those shoes. Also wondering if it would be better or different to check the natural rotation of one’s foot in standing vs sitting?
@gabiold2 жыл бұрын
I wonder whether the distance of the pedals (so called Q-factor) might also have some effect how you hold feet. Might be better to unscrew the pedals (mark the distance first on the floor), then clip in, and try to stand on the marks with the shoe+pedal assembly. This might help to adjust the rotation as well, although I don't know how to unclip the shoe without messing up the adjustment. Maybe release it somehow by poking into the right point in the pedal with a screwdriver.

My "metatarsal line" runs behind the backmost point where the cleats can be installed, so I can't install them behind my third metatarsal. Have I bought the wrong shoes for my feet? Or is it more likely that l have misunderstood where my metatarsals are located?

@bankole dada Loosen the adjustment screws on the pedals just a bit. Personally, due to riding pretty rough trails I run mine as loose as possible so I don't even have to think "twist out the heel to unclip" as it has now become an unconscious act. Great video BTW... wish I found it first. I tried watching a number of others which took forever to get to the point.
