Really enjoyed the content , question. Know u are back, looking back at the quality of the fish you saw in Japan how do your own fish stand up in terms of quality ? It seems the fish in Japan were obviously incredible, but so were the prices. I think based on the prices here in the UK, we still can get excellent quality fish without spending ridiculous amounts of money. To get that extra 10-15% extra quality you need to spend £1.000’s more ?
@JamesTHEKOIwhisperer1233 күн бұрын
I think the koi I have already are very nice quality and not saying there was fish I would love to have in my pond but I would get rid of mine to put a new one in if that makes sense

Some oyster shells in your shower would help sort out buffering your PH just like the Japanese. My pond is at 7.2 and KH 2 so water is soft.

How much would a 50cm koi cost to buy and get back to the uk roughly?
@JamesTHEKOIwhisperer1233 күн бұрын
Depends on what koi it is tbh But you are looking at £1000 on landed 🛬 But that is a hard question because every koi has a different price tag 🏷️ What you have to remember is there is 20% tax on the koi when landed And the bigger the koi the less can fit in a box 📦 that means bigger koi more ponds on the scales means more money That’s before you buy the koi from the dealer/breeder

Must admit, I was checking daily to see if there was a new upload, I really enjoyed the series, your enthusiasm was obvious to the point of semi giddiness 😊 totally understandable as I’d be the exact same myself. It’s a dream for many of us to go to Japan at Harvest time and have that experience and to be able to pick our own fish direct from the breeder, wow! Of course many of us hobby keepers with very limited budgets would love to know what prices buyers pay from different breeders but obviously it’s a closely guarded secret and your gag order, meant we couldn’t see quite of lot of the selection as they were discussing prices in the process, the problem being that it’s human nature to assume that the reason for such covert actions is to hide the profit margins once back in the UK. Not just SWK so I’m not singling them out but all importers will claim that profit margins aren’t huge, the fish aren’t as cheap as we think, shipping is expensive, QT and treatments aren’t cheap, just keeping them in stock is expensive, etc etc, then they’ll have an end of season sale and take 50% off the list prices or more, we’re not stupid! if you can afford to take a grand off a fish and still make a profit they aren’t as expensive as they’d have us believe. I get it, simple business, supply and demand, but honestly there’s no need to be so guarded, it’s not like we have any choice is it, we can’t pop over to Japan and buy a couple ourselves 😆
