Imagine you're an average citizen in Skyrim. You're minding your own business when all of a sudden a shit ton of dragons start flying towards the Throat of the World. A couple of minutes past and you're scared shitless that they're about to bring down all oblivion from the heavens, and then one by one they start speaking words that can be heard all across Skyrim. You've accepted that this is the end, but then, all of the dragons start circling around the mountain and just fly off in different directions like they just had a fucking AA meeting or something.

The Way of the Voice to a dragon never having done it sounds like a form of tyranny. And that's because only Paarthurnax and the Greybeards understand it's true meaning: restraint of one's power, and utter control of it. You control your strength, your power, your voice, and thus gain total mastery of it. In turn however, you often do not and cannot do much other than defend yourself. No aggression, no attack, no intervention. The Way of the Voice goes against the inborn nature of dragons...and thus why it's even more impressive Paarthurnax managed to keep it going through meditation and it's study.
@silversnail1413 Жыл бұрын
They have no choice. They can follow Paarthurnax or keep going rogue and eventually be slain permanently by the Dragonborn. Considering you just destroyed Alduin's mortal form I think most of the Dovah would prefer not taking that risk.
@ivartheboneless59692 ай бұрын
@@silversnail1413so they either submitted or die, submit to a philosophy that teaches them not to use their power to dominate others. One that’s hypocritical, two it’s setting yourself up for a rebellion, and three, if Paarthurnax had to meditate for thousands of years in order to achieve his level of control, and he still thinks about returning to his old ways everyday, as he admits, then how do we expect dragons who are forced to follow this philosophy to actually accept it? Surely there would be a vast number of dragons who try to rule over people themselves, now as alduin is gone. And how do we expect Paarthurnax to stick to his philosophy while he is out dominating dragons? It was hard enough when he was isolated and spent all his time meditating on his philosophy. How about when he has a fleet of dragons bowing down to him and he is travelling Nirn looking over all that he and his brother Alduin used to rule? How hard will it be to stick to his philosophy and deny his nature then?

"Melancholy is an easy trap for a dov to fall into" I think that's the line that explains why Alduin turned evil.
@ivartheboneless59692 ай бұрын
Melancholy is easy for them to fall into because they are immortal. It wouldn’t be a problem if Alduin didn’t betray his destiny and destroyed the world as he was supposed to, because dragons could of then returned to Akatosh. Instead they are stranded in a world they were created to destroy. Now having to learn to deny their natural instinct to dominate and destroy, and learn the way of the voice, how to gain full control over their power and use it only for the worship and glory of the gods. I personally think Paarthurnax’s quest to teach dragons to deny their nature is hypocritical and will be in vain. You can’t dominate dragons to submit to your philosophy about how they shouldn’t use their power to dominate. And if it took Paarthurnax thousands of years of isolation and meditation to achieve his philosophy, and he still struggles everyday against returning to his old ways as he admits, then how can we expect dragons who are forced into this philosophy to accept it without eventual rebellion? And how can we expect Paarthurnax to stick to his philosophy while he is out dominating dragons, flying over the land he and his brother used to rule. I believe Paarthurnax also understands he will eventually fail and give into his nature, it’s probably the reason he doesn’t tell the Dragonborn of his plan to make the other Dovah submit to him and accept the way of the voice until after Alduin is defeated. I think he truly does want to help his fellow dovah see his philosophy, but understands through dominating them he may loose it himself. But the devil on his shoulder tells him to go through with it anyway, because he at the end of the day, failure only results in him giving into his nature, something he is addicted to and part of him wants to return to anyway. I don’t believe Paarthurnax can convert all the dovah and keep his philosophy strong until Akatosh decides to send the world eater forth anew. Either he won’t be able to dominate all the dragons and convert them or he will lose himself in the process. Thinking he can dominate them all and keep them from rebelling until Alduins return and fulfilment of his destiny is short sighted. They are literally immortal and Akatosh may not start the end of time for thousands or years.

@@ivartheboneless5969 I think the Way of the Voice was meant to be Paarthurnax's strategy for coping with the psychological stresses of being immortal in a mortal world, so that he doesn't fall to darkness like his brother did. that's why he wants to preach it to the other dragons. and I think the Way of the Voice is also an effective strategy for coping with psychological stresses of being a mortal in a mortal world, and that's why Greybears live so long.

@@sfbuck415 the way of the voice is a philosophy, about using the Thu’um, to bring glory to, and worship the gods. Instead of using it to dominate others. It’s why the Dragons label it tyranny, because it goes against their nature and their purpose. I personally do not see how Paarthurnax can unite the dragons under the way of the voice. He took thousands of years to achieve his mindset, and still struggles with his nature every day. And he was willing to submit to this philosophy, the other dragons are not. Either Paarthurnax will fall to his nature, or he will fail to convert all the dragons to the way of the voice. Either way, the dragons with a hunger for domination and no leadership, with Alduin being sent back to Akatosh, will spread all across Nirn trying to start up their new age dragon cults, trying to rule over humans like they did in ancient times. And with the last Dragonborn dead, the world will have no hope of defeating the dragons. That’s why i believe the Dragonborn should wipe out all dragons, return them to Akatosh so they can be sent forth when the time is right. Less they roam earth with no purpose, stranded on a land they were destined to destroy, but without their leader to lead them to that destiny they are practically stuck in limbo.
