WOW. Thanks for posting this one! This was a fun, thriving place when I was a kid growing up. Even though I hadn't visited it in many, many years, to see it in such total disarray is really sad. And I can't believe you go trekking through all those dark areas by yourself like that...scary, ha!

When did you shoot this? Looked like the mall was still in pretty good shape when you toured it. It is beyond destroyed nowadays. I think it's slated for demo in the spring/summer of 2022.

This was shot April 2019. Myself (Brian) and Jack flew out to St. Louis and were able to tour the mall with free reign, with permission of the mall owner who was present and involved in cleanup while we were there. We had to bring painter's masks (better than N95) to wear in parts due to black mold. I remember going into some stores (most of the glass was shattered on storefronts so you could walk right in that way on some) and hearing running water, going to the back and seeing pipes spraying water into the air. The water was never shut off to the place, and pipes obviously froze and burst in the winter, creating the cesspool environment in the larger stores where no natural light reached. The interior mall hall was decent, but inside some of the stores where darkness ruled, mold followed.

Was there a another guy in the mall with you in there?

I was there (Brian), Jack was filming, and there was another guy with a crew who worked with the company that got us access.
