In terms of Actors Who Were Born To Play A Role, I'd put Patrick Warburton's Kronk right up there with Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. He's just so damn perfect. Even people who haven't seen the movie know and love the character.

18:55 It's supposed to be Inca. Kuzko's name is inspired in the city of Cuzco, llamas and alpacas are iconic South American camelids, mountainous terrain is inspired in the Andes mountain chain, clothing and textiles are inspired in the andean cultures. Same with the architecture, you can even see a ton of Inti (the Sun God) symbology. Also, those are Inca rope bridges between the mountains.

-Mannnnnnn...this movie still might be the funniest Disney movie cause it's like Disney took a bit of Looney Tunes. and Muppets humor and applied it here. Read the BTS stories on how this went from a musical drama to a comedy - John Goodman is a treasure. He did this and Monsters Inc the year after - Really shout out to the voice acting in this movie cause the delivery of these lines are top notch (especially Patrick Warburton and the late Eartha Kitt).

Completely agree about the entire cast, but I do reserve a special one for the team of Kitt and Warburton. And remember, while Kronk is a great character, part of what makes him so great is that Warburton and Kitt play off each other so well. Kitt is a major reason that Warburton was able to build his Kronk so beautifully.

That underrated "flying surfboard" movie with pirates you mentioned would be Treasure Planet. It's usually grouped with the last traditionally animated films before 3D animation took over you mentioned, like Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Even The Emperor's New Groove fell awkwardly between Disney's most successful period and what is often considered the beginning of the end for 2D animation, it went sort of under the radar at the time and a lot of people missed it. But yeah, there's still some real gems in there and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them.

So I believe this movie was originally called “Kingdom of the Sun” and there’s a video about the history behind its production is bonkers. Also the villain Yzma is voiced by the icon and original Cat Woman Eartha Kitt. Also you’re thinking of “Treasure Planet” “Titan AE” that go along with “Atlantis”
@wickedfire918 ай бұрын
I have always loved this movie so much. Yzma is one of my favorite Disney villains. She makes me cackle, and is just perfect casting because without a voice as unique as Eartha Kitt's (RIP to a Queen), her lines wouldn't be half as funny. There's a great moment of illustrating Kuzco being hated by ending his eulogy with "Welp, he ain't gettin' any deader" and all the palace workers just tossing their candles lol. Also the Courage episode you're talking about is "The Hunchback of Nowhere"!

I'll admit, when the trailers for this movie were coming out, I had my reservations. Because when you compare the art styles for ENG vs the previous Disney movies, it felt like a huge leap. But the humor was ON POINT. The fact that my friends and I used so many of the lines afterwards just shows how good it was. But it was a bit of a turning point for Disney animation, where some of their animation movies started missing, and Pixar starting gaining in popularity.
@poolhall96327 ай бұрын
12:13 the animation style uses a lot of techniques and call backs to older Disney movies. Like the silhouetted tigers, chasing him through the jungle and the color palette used is reminiscent of The Jungle Book, Black Cauldron, etc.

Its a fascinating watch seeing how radically everything changed during production. Just google "The Seatbox" and it should be the first link to it on archive

The ones you're referring to at the end are (in order) Treasure Planet, Atlantis The Lost Empire and Road to El Dorado. And just like Emperor's New Groove, they were box-office underperformers ... Treasure Planet was notoriously thrown under the bus as Disney's excuse to cut their hand-drawn features out of commission. But they've grown the big fanbases they deserve since then. I also have a soft spot for The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, which Nickelodeon haphazardly herded out like the rest of its big-screen spinoffs of its shows but didn't count on Stephen Hillenburg & co. writing some of the most iconic comedy scenes of the early 2000s.

James, in your animation adventure, you should definitely check out the classics FERNGULLY: THE LAST RAINFOREST and THE BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER. Ferngully is Robin Williams' first voice acting role, and there was heavy drama between the filmmakers and Disney, who tried desperately to sabotage the film so only they could have Robin play The Genie in Aladdin. Needless to say, Robin told them to pound sand. As for Toaster...well, I'll just say don't underestimate a film about household appliances. Plus, the soundtrack absolutely slaps. Every song is a banger.
