He was traded because the Patriots didn't want to commit big money to lock him up long term. And they felt that financial commitment could be used in another way that's more effective to helping the team. That's really all there is to it. Lots of athletes don't spend their days off training. No one wants to work 7 days a week.

Harry Garris he was a diva. they would've gladly given him 11m's. he roamed like he was a free safety & that gave up many yards/TDs even. he wanted his own package of defensive plays. he wasn't as good as he's been the last few years. he'd take 15M per year & lose 12+ a year before he'd take 11m & win a few super bowls. plus, the pats have like 10 starters who will be free agents in February. Butler, Hightower, Bennett, Sheard, Vollmer, Blount. All more valuable than Collins, whom has been outplayed by a rook this year in all facets of the game

Ken Washington maybe but your giving away a top 10 maybe top 5 linebacker away to be replaced by a rookie your can't be sure about, and a 3rd round pick you could have gotten simply by keeping him, maybe it's me and my bias of loving collins being on my favorite team idk, I just can't see this as a solid trade

But should a person get cut because they are not passionate about the sport? Idk about this guy, but Im guessing it had more to do with his play than his personal feelings. You dont trade a guy because of his feelings towards a game. You trade him if those feelings begin to affect his play.

I think the Pats think that the Browns will give Collins less money, not the Von Miller money he wants, then the Pats can trade him back for a little better draft pick. I think its smart tbh especially which how Brady is playing the mindset might be they don't need Collins to win the big one, but i could be wrong.

Lee Spurgeon you don't watch football do you. Rivers had been on a better organization he would have been a Super Bowl Champ by now. He has been the most consistent of the class of 04 with inferior teammates, Ben was not what he was till AB, and do we really have to mention Eli, and the Farve in him.

xMTFNemesis Kerry Collins is 16, is he a hall of famer? Bledsoe is ahead of Rivers, yet not in the hall of fame... Its a passing league pedestrian quarterbacks are putting up numbers that were unheard back in the day

@leespurgeon5007 7 жыл бұрын
Fernando Estrada I watch a lot of football and I agree he's probably the best of the class in terms of straight numbers, of course Ben is ahead of him though and you cant say thats all cause of one receiver hes had for 4 years. Bens also more of a winner than Rivers, hes had better teams for sure. But hes won. Palmer is comparable to Rivers in terms of numbers but his consistency is not there and hes a choker in the playoffs. And Eli, I mean Eli has a legacy, but I hate him so thats all the credit I can give him, not a good qb who rode a good defense for 2 years and got hot in the playoffs

Just because he doesn't watch football on his free time doesn't mean he's not a process guy.
@thebobhannah
@thebobhannah 7 жыл бұрын
The word "process" does not fully capture the point Coward was trying to make. The point is that Collins doesn't appear to be a person who cares about the schematic details of the game. He appears to be more of an intuitive player who relies on his raw talent, and instinct. My question to you: Do you dispute the idea that Collins has often "free roamed" when playing for the Patriots? Meaning that he went outside of the scheme of the coaching staff, in favor of his own instinct. That is a fact which was also presented, that shows hard evidence of Collins behaving outside of the system! Coward is simply adding to this by pointing to indicators that Collins does not share the passion of the intricacies of the game like Belichick does. In my view, this theory is the most believable I have seen as reasoning for the trade of Collins at the time he was traded. (I know that there are other factors which would have likely led to his trade at a later date.)

He got traded because Belichick and the patriots have created a system that almost any Nfl caliber player can excell in. That why for YEARS we see players thrive in the pats system until it's time for them to get paid. They go elsewhere get their big contract and often never do anything else in there careers. meanwhile the pats just take another nobody and make him a superstar and the cycle continues. That's why the pats will still be championship contenders well after bradys retires.

I know Belichick would keep Jamie Collins over most players. Collins is the ultimate Lawrence Taylor type player than Belichick loves, and has coached in the past, but given the circumstance that they gave Collins an offer of 11 mill per year and he still declined, there was nothing more that Belichick could have done, because he wasn't going to pay Collins Von Miller money, and lose out on five other important free agents.

It does make sense though. A guy who doesn't love the process will often whiff on the fundamentals, the practice, the dedication and the hours of film study. Talent and athleticism can only take you so far in the NFL. Collins probably played in real life like he would on Madden, which is absolutely freelancing and guessing. It doesn't even begin to scratch the surface.

Yeah but because of his natural talent he's still a way better player than thousands of professional athletes who work harder than he does. Hard work and passion is a really nice thing to put on a resume but it's not everything.

True to a certain extent, but then there are guys like Derrick Thomas who always half assed it in practice and was one of the greatest players of all time. So it works both ways. You can have a guy who kills it in practice and sucks on Sundays, and you can have a guy who is garbage in practice but always brings it on Sundays.

LOL reminds me of a rant Colin did on the "People's Republic of Boulder" regarding the CU Buffs football program. Football is a committed business, a focused business... and coaches don't have time to trifle with uncommitted and unfocused players or institutions for that matter. Collins relied on skill with zero work ethic... not gonna happen in N.E. Ask Randy Moss, Chad Johnson and the host of other players with serious talent that N.E. has dropped for guys you've never heard of. The system, the system, the system!

I think it was likely a combination of both. Revis got paid, by Brady sacrificing pay in order to build a defense to win the SB in 2014. Belichick certainly wont pay a guy who not only is asking for a lot of money, but also doesn't share his passion for the intricacies of the game.
