Excellent job, Jamie. I never thought I could listen to anyone else but Randy Newman singing this but I really like your version. Very soulful. Thank you!

Just beautiful. Have had this life experience and as Randy says" will never getting over losing you" How true!

You can always hear Randy's writing. The piano and the turn of phrase. Like a voice that you recognize.

His commentary on this song mentions when he hears that the song is actually about a couple losing their child, and not a romantic loss.
@hawkrider883 жыл бұрын
Perhaps makes it even more sad....so poignant. So couple should be preceded into death by a child. Whew....no words.
@hlween62 жыл бұрын
Well...actually, as Randy explains on a video of him singing his song, he wrote it about a young man who his brother (an oncologist) was treating who died of brain cancer. The young man's parents shared that previously they experienced a significant loss of family members. They shared that they had enough time to "get over that" but not so with the death of their child. Knowing the back story of why Randy wrote this song makes listening to it even that much more touching.

A really lovely rendition of a simple but beautiful song. I'm sad that he changed the lyrics of the 3rd verse - "When you're young..." Randy Newman sings "...you don't think that you will but you do" which has the perfect meter for this line. But just a lovely arrangement and really suits his slightly gravelly voice.
@mybuck44 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you perrych2012. I wish he had not changed the lyrics as of that line, which touches my heart every single time I hear this song. But still, he did a good job of one of the most loveliest songs ever.
