Күн бұрын

This week is Tinnitus Week - highlighting the 1 in 7 adults in the UK that are affected by the condition - and one of those is Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing. Jamie blames a combination of anxiety and time spent in loud nightclubs throughout his 20s as the cause of high-pitched sounds he experiences. Jamie opens up about his experience alongside Dr Raj with everything you need to know about tinnitus.

I too have Tinnitus and have done for over 10 years now.. That high pitch noise going in and out etc... My twin brother also suffers.. Years and years of loud music and playing music etc... I'm very much like Jamie.. I listen to storm sounds, wind, rain, blizzard sounds every single night as a way to not just block out the intermittent tinnitus ringing, but also to relax... YOUR NOT ALONE FOLKIES!!!.. there's worse things to be diagnosed with at the end of the day.. Much love.. Ross 🍻

I've had terrible tinnitus for 11 years this year.. its relentless, never ending and sometimes it's just soul destroying even with my hearing aids/white noise generators in. Every minute of everyday from the moment i wake til the second I manage to fall asleep. I hear a dual tone high pitched alternating pattern I can't remember what silence is like.. they think it's linked to chronic anxiety and not helped by my fibromyalgia. I can say with all my heart that it isn't as easy to deal with as this guy makes out. He's lucky he found a way to learn to cope.. I've tried everything.. everything and nothing helps it go away.. some days its better than others and I'm just grateful for that.

I didn’t know it was linked to fibromyalgia?, I have had a high pitched noise on and off. But where I have been really stressed over the last few months. Now it’s a ring when I get up on one side,it’s a total nuisance. But could be a lot worst 😊

@sekinatparry9883 ye its common for fibromyalgia patients. My tinnitus was "manageable" for about 3 years then it suddenly got worse.. some days I can manage.. others can be overwhelming.. like you say.. it could be worse.

I've always had it. I live alone so I always have either music on or you tube listening to news or documentary. Not loudly just in the background. Always on when I get into bed at night. Never talked to anyone about it so thank you. (I'm 77 so if I've survived it so can you & others.) All the best. ❤

Ive had tinnitus since 2007 soon after my Dad passed away. I was gutted when the nurse nonchalantly said there's no cure. It's worse at different times. Last week I had lunch with friends at a restaurant and a lot of the sharing food was deep fried. That sent my tinnitus sky high that night and i hardly slept... lesson learned!

I have had a high pitched noise and hissing noise in my both ears for over 20 years now, I don't really notice it anymore unless I focus on it. I also have Pulsatile tinnitus on and off all my life which is hearing your heartbeat in your ears, that one is harder to ignore and drives you nuts. Thankfully it usually goes for months after a while. Thinking of people with this horrible condition.

I got tinnitus when I was 10, I’m nearly 40 now. We were at a family festival, a band was playing and a guy that stood next to me was doing a high-pitched whistle throughout. Out of appreciation I might add. We tried homeopathic remedies as well as stuff the gp prescribed. Nothing helped of course. I thought my life had ended, I was nearing depression. Couldn’t be in a quiet room. But as Jamie said, it did pass. I became a teenager and lots of life happened which pushed the tinnitus to the sideline. I still like to have ‘something’ on in the background, but it’s not a deal breaker anymore.

I’ve been living with tinnitus for over 15 years. It’s getting louder and louder. The noise I hear resembles cicadas and it’s 24/7. As Jamie said, the tinnitus is louder when I’m tired or anxious. I got mine after several ear infections and perforated eardrums. I did learn how to live with it but it can be extremely irritating sometimes. I miss the silence.

I have tinnitus in both ears and have had for almost 40 years. I had to have the radio playing to be able to sleep at first but now, all this time later, I am used to it and unless I am unwell and it increases in volume for a short spell, I don't need to blot it out when I sleep. Yes, it hampers some activities still - whispered conversations can't really be held - but I can't let it rule my life.

I've had it all my life like an untuned old tube TV set. In my case it might (might) have started when I was a toddler and stuck my head though a non-safety glass window. I remember that at my first primary school (circa 1972) they had audio hearing tests and they played a frequency that seemed to match what I hear/experience.

I have pulsating tinnitus (hearing your heartbeat) + siren, buzzing & helicopter sounds. I also have extreme sound sensitivity, a symptom of my Severe ME, so need to wear soft ear plugs 24/7 to reduce background noise & noise cancelling headphones over the top to dampen repetitive noises, when someones hoovering, multiple people talking, hectic hospital environment etc. People think I’m rude or crazy but sound / vibrations physically hurts not just my head but my entire body. I spent 5 years only watching things silently with subtitles. Which i need to be cognitively alert for and is not at all relaxing when you get easily overstimulated may I add. It’s truly draining.

Being "diagnosed" is simply recognising you have noise in your ears/head with no external source. There's nothing a doctor/audiologist does other than say "yes, you're describing tinnitus". It's like saying "diagnosed with a headache", or "diagnosed with tiredness".

I developed tinnitus after a sinus infection and my GP very confidently said its not tinnitus because its not in both ears and because its not a ringing noise(mine is pulsating). It is so frustrating when the one institution that is supposed to have answers to our issues have no clue and basically rejects our queries or simply disregards our concerns.

I was a regular at metal gigs from the late seventies onwards and suffered for days afterwards with ringing in the ears. Fortunately I’ve escaped with a small amount of hearing loss and no tinnitus. I’ve since cut down significantly on my exposure to excessive volume mainly due to pricey tickets and the camera phone obsession! I’d certainly advise the younger generation to use ear protection. It’s no longer ‘Cool’ not to! 😜

I have tinnitus and it can almost be deafening if you listen to it. No pun intended, and as odd as stating that sounds, it really is true. A bit of background noise is good as it drowns it out and/or is a distraction. It was bad about a year ago and was annoying me more than usual so I went to the doctor and then hospital and everything checked out and all was fine. Another odd thing is that I think I have always had it and it was my normal, and until I was made aware of it, then it became a thing. Like if you had an extra thumb and thought nothing of it until someone pointed it out, then you realise, oh, yes I do! To be honest it hasn't bothered me for quite a long time now and I 'd almost forgotten about it until a few days ago, when it just occurred to me that I hadn't noticed it for some time. It's still there if I stop to listen but it's bearable and obviously a lot better for me to have almost forgotten about it. But I've been taking new meds (for a separate issue) for a similar time so maybe that has something to do with it, or just coincidental.
