Honest professional reviews don't usually involve showing up with camera crews and asking to be allowed to record minutes before ordering. They're well within their rights to ask you for notice if you want to record in their restaurant. It's not about them wanting time to be on their best behaviour for some random KZbinr (which is what you are to them). They have considerations about disturbing other customers, the timing of when you want to record etc. If you go in randomly during the lunch time rush for example, they aren't gonna wanna deal with you, hence the request for notice. Plus for all they know, you could be out to sabotage them so them wanting you to contact them first makes perfect sense. What does that mean for the integrity of the reviews? Well if you get to place your own order (rather than them trying to handpick something) and if they don't ask for editorial control (beyond making sure it's not a deliberate hit piece) then there's no issue. If you want the purity of old school food critic reviews with honest anonymity then it has to be either without cameras or with hidden cameras *though that can get you in trouble). A chef isn't going to only cook good food for reviewers and slack off for average customers. They'd be fired instantly. A restaurant might try to incentivise you with free meals or special treatment, that's not impossible but ultimately, it's the food that matters and the food doesn't lie.

Part of the unique aspect of this channel is the eating out in front of the place, I’d 100% continue doing that, it’s part of the charm. First video I found of you was eating a horrible chicken burger at the back of a car and I was like What is this hahaha, but in a good way, Get a tiny little table and one chair and eat at it with the places in the background and it will become an iconic image. It's obvious bigger food reviewers let the places know they are coming in. Otherwise there would be tons of videos of the staff or managers asking them why they are recording, it's content to even show the staff questioning them and they don't show that, so only logical explanation is that they are already aware there will be a food reviewer in recording there meal. Like 95% + of content online there are fake elements to content, as is in the bigger food reviewers videos there are elements that are fake also, like this type of scenario.

Lads, great channel and getting better… i think its the big camera is the red flag.. I think a few of the over seas channels seem to either sell their soul OR film covertly on a tiny camera. Like others have suggested, there is no harm getting a fold up table, or those tall fold up stools you can buy in guitar shops or order from Thomann. I think by saying youre sitting outside might get past the red tape in some places? Anyway.. best of luck with the channel, i enjoy it 🤘🏼

I'd say, just don't tell them you're filming at all. Do it slyly and record from your phone if you have to. When it comes to these celeb restaurants, they probably don't want a big old camera in there because A) it might disrupt/distract other diners, and B) they want to try and control the situation to their advantage in any way they can. If they're expecting that a 'film crew' is turning up at a particular time and day, they can prepare themselves for it and you'll get a very different experience than you would normally. So just go guerrilla film-making when you're in there. Don't tell them you're filming, don't make it obvious that you're recording a 'piece to camera' or even that a camera is being pointed at you. You're just two mates, having a meal, and one of them just happens to get his phone out every now and then. Nothing to see here lol

Tough one to call. A Marguerite is the least likely pizza I'd order, but I get it as a baseline for review. I'm much more likely to get a pepperoni or meat feast type. If a medium Marguerite is 16.50€, I'd not be likely to want to know what a normal order for me is gonna cost. It looked okay, though that was a lot of sag in centre for a wood fired. Recording within is also a tough one here. They've every right to refuse. Recording in a public place may be legally enshrined in many jurisdictions, but a restaurant or publicly accessible place (while on private property) is rarely the same rules. I do notice that some 'reviewers' that have booked or been invited, are doing so in an empty restaurant, long become any real customers would be in. Maybe there's an element of GDPR or getting permission to film other guests, but it does tend towards that they are getting special service, making many of their 'reviews' skewed.

Nigel Ng is not a real food critic his Uncle Roger character is simply a routine/sketch he made up that has become very popular. He makes a lot of money out of the Uncle Roger character so he continues to do whatever it takes to get views as that makes him more money. I believe his food reviews about as much as i do the social media influencers who threaten to make or break businesses depending whether or not they are not given free stuff.
