I am a lead arm bender at the top of my swing and absolutely feel the greatness in my swing. The key is at the top of the swing to leave your hands and wrist alone to be reactive only as you quickly use your lead forearm to straighten out your entire lead arm at the moment of impact. And also your trail side to be only reactive in your downswing and never again proactive as this is now the job of your lead forearm at the top of your downswing. At 74 and fat believe me this works! Cheers

Was hoping to see a Tom Watson video, who even discussed his bent elbow in an instructional video. Nonetheless, your video was very helpful by confirming my experience. I have a fairly broad chest and shoulders. I typically try to connect my lead arm to my chest and keeping the arm straight, resulting in all manner of faults, mostly fat shots and weak shots. By allowing my elbow to bend as much as necessary to keep tension out of the arms the more solid contact with more distance and accuracy.

Lorena Ochoa once was asked on tv about her bent left arm (looks straight to me). She said it provides more leverage and snap through the downswing.

Honestly I bend my arm because I’m fat and I don’t have that much flexibility to turn. The arm bending works perfectly well for me.

I am 74 and fat as well. My lead arm bends at the top of my swing also. For me at the top of my downswing I immediately employ my trail lead arm to unbend at my lead elbow in order to straighten my lead arm directly at the moment of impact. I leave my hands and wrists alone and let them be reactive to my downswing only as this is essential to prevent any casting of my club at the top of my swing My trail side is left alone to be reactive to my swing as well. How about you?. Is this the technique in your swing as well. Cheers

A straight left arm is geometrically more efficient but it's not mandatory nor does it guarantee you'll hit the ball perfectly. I think that a lack of tension in the arms is more important than the geometry honestly.

In accurately everyone has a bend in their lead arm great or small. The more bend the more leverage that can be used to add speed. Just take a pole with a weight on the end swing it and compare it to a pole that hinges with weight on the end and tell me which one moves faster.

Help!!! I recently broke my lead arm humerus, 0:30 right below my shoulder socket. I now have an impingement that will not allow me to keep my left arm straight past my belt on the back swing. My strikes are inconsistent even though I am trying to turn more with my hips and back muscles along with my obliques. I am trying more of a Jon Rahm move without the pulling action of his left arm. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did the same thing when I was 12. I don't know if you are able to straighten your left arm, buy I wasn't until the doctors used laughing gas and manually straightened it for weeks until I could finally straighten it. If you can't, please respond and I'll send you the information to specifically help you develop a move that will be optimal for you. I work with a scientific golf coach, who's IQ is legitimately higher than 190. He has a KZbin following and was Moe Norman's best friend. You can always find a way.

I am a range rat and am always looking for good golfers to critique my swing for me. I'll hit a shot that goes great, and they'll ask me what's wrong. I'll say it feels like I'm bending my left arm. Almost to a man they'll say, "Who cares? You don't get style points. Just look at the great shot you just hit." I am no longer fighting to keep a straight left arm. I'm 73 and overweight, so the bend helps me to get some wrist cock at the top, which I never got when I tried keeping the left arm straight. As Arnie said, "Swing your swing." Go with what works.

When golf "teachers" speak to folded left arms and always use a touring professional model as proof it does not make any difference it is not taking other factors into account. Bent left arm is typically a fault in the backswing like poor flexibility or understanding the fact that if you want to transition correctly, it is extremely difficult if you do not start from an extended position and find a way ( multiple ways) to drop the shaft to the inside on the way to impact. Trying to transition correctly from a bent arm position is not easy. Besides, using a touring professional as an example because they all have great hand action that makes up for a lot of faults. sorry Jamie, cannot buy into this analogy.
