I have to agree, oats are such a great staple to have, been eating it my whole life and it is great on it's own, plain cooked with water but you can make it cooked, baked, microwaved, overnight, warm, cold, with spices, fruit, nuts, seeds, veg..I mean, options are endless 😄 #teamoats 😂

In Australia we have oat flakes, a lot like bran flakes but made with primarily oats instead. They're bloody amazing, I don't think many people have tried them though. But they are 12% sugar, so I don't think Jamie would approve.

There's nothing closer to my heart than a good handul of granola. When I cleaned up my life and began eating right that's one of the things I found satisfaction in. I eat granola at the couch while watching TV, on a hike, if I'm hungrier than normal at work and can't find 2 fresh bananas that look good then I'll go to the bulk part of the store and grab 0.70¢ worth of good granola to fill me up. But my favorite thing to do with it is every week I take a box of flake granola (the flat ones) and a box of crunches (the little round bites) and mix them together in a tub with a good bit of 75% dark chocolate chips. I eat a cup of that with 2 tbsp of yogurt, a splash of skim milk, and ocassionally peanut butter every night as my last meal. Its lovely. I like to change up what types I get too. For flake granola I either usually get Vector or Just Right (not technically a granola but it works beautifully), and crunches is the house brand of wherever I'm shopping but I like sampling everything, as long as the nutrition facts are solid on it.

There's a very high chance they won't like it, because they're use to the sweet flavour now. I would advice you to add some of these to the cereal they're eating now, and then gradually add less of the sweet cereal over time.

I like how people point out when it's natural sugar. Like natural sugar can't cause diabetess. News flash. If you want to avoid diabetess, you have to moderate ALL sugars. Carbs, too. All things in moderation applies to healthy foods as well. There's even such a thing as too much water. It's called drowning.

I put a few prunes into a bowl of bran flakes and add home made coconut rice milk and it tastes amazing. I have insulin dependant diabetes and the sugary cereals cause absolute chaos with blood sugar control, however Jamie Oliver is so right with this video, these cereals are slow burning so they prevent hunger in between meals keeping energy levels up.

While I would hope that the majority of people knew this info. already, I wanted to watch this to see if you had, indeed, taken a balanced view. Love that you have! Too many individuals jumping on the 'everything is poison' bandwagon! We all know excess sugar is not good.....but a balanced diet, including all food groups, is a good thing! Too many people with allergies these days, and you wonder whether it's from lack of exposure (i.e, women who avoid certain foods while pregnant/breastfeeding are shown to have children at increased risk of allergy to that food - nuts being one example). So many things contribute to health and longevity, attitude being a big one! Fertility another. Obviously genetics, too. I think a fear of food will kill people a lot faster than consuming dairy 😂

Have to say, I really enjoyed this video. I eat all of these. Been on a low sugar thing for a while. Breakfast isn't necessarily "the most important meal of the day", for some people. It highly depends on your metabolism. Some people would benefit from skipping breakfast and having the first meal of the day at 1pm or so.
@TheHidalgo99

No, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
@ThisIsMyFullName
@ThisIsMyFullName 6 жыл бұрын
You're right, apart from the fact that no one benefits form skipping a meal. You should always have something to eat for breakfast, even if it's just a banana and a slice of bread, your body needs something to get it going. Especially if you have a workout routine during the mornings, or you ride a bicycle to work.
@siramea
@siramea 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how metabolism plays into it but I agree breakfast is not the most important meal for everyone, if you feel hungry without breakfast you should eat it, if you're not into breakfast and prefer to have your first meal later in the day that's fine too. What you eat is more important that when you eat it, as long as you are not hungry or overeating.
@ThisIsMyFullName
@ThisIsMyFullName 6 жыл бұрын
Sira Mea I'm sorry, but that's not true. When you eat, what you eat, and how much you eat, is all important for different reasons. Eating breakfast is important as your body still uses energy when you sleep, meaning if you sleep for 8 hours and didn't eat anything 3 hours before going to bed, your body have gone for around 11 hours without any food. Needless to say that's quite a long time. It's also important to understand that when you're hungry (or thirsty), it's not your brain giving you a friendly reminder that you have to eat. It's actually a warning sign, meaning you should have ate something a long time ago, and that your body is now low on energy. The thing is, when you eat something it takes a while for your body to turn that food into energy, so simply putting food in your mouth the second you can feel your hungry, is not a good idea. You want your body to have a constant source of energy throughout the day, which is why you need to eat something even if you're not hungry.

My 14 year old can't have the bran but he likes shredded wheat and oatmeal. I've been looking for ways to sweeten it up other than sugars and syrups. Is steel cut oats any better/worse than regular cooked oats? I'm assuming the quick oats I shouldn't even bother with anymore (nothing particularly "quick" seems to be healthy anymore bc it's been stripped of it's nutritional value).
@siramea
@siramea 6 жыл бұрын
Steel cut oats are good, they are thicker and so slower to digest. Quick oats are not the worst but are digested a lot quicker so not as satiating. I like this article for more info www.livestrong.com/article/371732-nutritional-information-on-steel-cut-oats-vs-other-oatmeal/
