Some men are such hypocrites, they do the same but don't or never get punished. The only time I felt sorry for Laoghaire. She probably wouldn't have survived the beating.

In his mind, he was being a honorable gentleman to a lass here. In the second scenario, he was doing it as its his role as husband and because Claire almost cost them their safety. At least that was the logic.
