‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ is the real-life tale of a gay teenager who decided one day he wanted to wear a dress to his school prom.
The British musical is locked in a David versus several Goliaths battle this weekend at the Olivier Awards - nominated in five categories despite a cast of unknowns and an unknown story.
The real-life Jamie and his mum Margaret talk about the journey from County Durham to the West End stage.

It's to tell him that if he stays small and awkward and just calls himself a boy in a dress then no-one will take him seriously and accept. Him being a drag queen gives him confidence and he feels fearless when being that. But yes I agree, no-one should be laughed at for wearing a dress wether they are a man or a woman, and clothes have no gender!

I find Jamie’s story so beautiful and inspiring, and reading some of these comments shocks me. Why are some people so scared of anything different? It’s a boy in a dress for crying out loud. He’s just doing his own thing (having documentaries and musicals made about him) and generally loving life yet some people are still hating on him from behind a screen. It’s 2018. What he does doesn’t effect you, so grow up and get over yourself. It’s pathetic.

Being black is legal but that doesn’t stop people being racist and discriminating against them. Only because something is made legal does not mean we can just move on and enjoy life.
