A week in Istanbul, Turkey with the Leica M6 and the Leica M11. Istanbul is an incredible place to walk the streets with a camera. There is a frame almost everywhere you look and your senses are on overdrive taking in the markets, the mosques and the hustle of the people living there.
All images captured on Kodak Gold 200.

Great job with the video! Many beautiful shots. I loved how you compared the M6 image side by side with the M11 image. I want to carry only one camera body with me on my shooting trips. I like the film results better, but the M11 is so much easier and convenient to use, and more versatile with different light conditions. I would love to just carry my M-P 0.72 only, but the film canisters take up bag space and it is a hassle to get through airports. How do you find a reputable film developer when you get to your destination? I am worried about traveling with film (losing or damaging the rolls) but I am also hesitant to hand them over to an unfamiliar developer. It looked like most of your shots were analog. What percentage was digital?
@jamie.dop_
@jamie.dop_ 3 ай бұрын
@@sc1 thanks so much. I’d say 95+% were from the M6. The M11 just accompanied the M6 and my Mrs uses the M11 in the next video coming out soon. Yeah the MP would be class to carry round. As for the rolls in the bag, I’m never normally shooting more than two or three in a day and I wanted to scan and develop in turkey for the cost and convenience, plus I knew I then had the images were I to lose the rolls whilst traveling further in Turkey. Thanks again for leaving a comment. Kind of you. J

Dude! Awesome shots and great video! Still can't believe how great these film shots turned out to be Kodak Gold. Although you got it dev and scanned there, I'm curious what kind of settings you usual use when you scan yourself. Since I'm recently stocked up on Kodak Gold (very lucky and rare - got triple packs of Gold at a drug store for 20€ per pack :D) I'm now inspired to shoot. And since I'm looking at a private sale of a Leica M3 tomorrow, I might do a quick video of my first shoot with it and Kodak Gold in my town :) Some other quick questions if you don't mind :) How is the M11 working for you? Did you have any freezes during your trip? Since you shoot a lot of rolls through your M6, at which approximate number of rolls do you get your M6 serviced? Again really enjoy your videos and you make taking street photos on film with a 28mm so effortless - I don't have the courage to point my camera with 50mm at people :'D
@jamie.dop_

@@IntrovertAmateur thanks for the message. Lots to unpack! I’ll do my best to cover it all. - great costs for that Kodak gold! Good find - I scan using SL2 and Canon 100mm Macro. 2400 white balance and then make sure I correct to white balance in Lightroom. Normally shoot around 1/15 shutter and and f8. Use a diffused light box below negative holder. Then convert with negative lab pro and try to create a soft but pastel look with sharpness in the right areas which is easy with those lenses which are crazy sharp! - m11 is a great camera and those lenses shine through with that sensor too. But yes…. I have now been using the camera for 5 weeks and it has crashed over 50 times. I have read that it is an occurring problem for almost all users! Despite this I would still buy one if I could afford! - red dot cameras have supported me with their incredible range of kit. If you interested in selling they would be great to offer you a solid deal. - that 28mm is amazing and I do find it easy to snap away quite naturally and without making it to invasive of others. That 50 is my favourite lens for portraits on analog. Then 50 Noctilux for digital. Hope this covers most things and be sure to message me a link to your video if you produce one. Best, J

Yeah I understand that. We this is clearly what they are for... a YT video showing the environment and the people in these places. I often speak with people before or after and exchange details however in a foreign speak country that can be difficult. I am yet to have any confrontation with people and I hope the viewers on here can see they are taken with no malice intended. I would say your choice of words of 'Borderline" is spot on. @@jamie.dop_ I don't want to be misunderstood; I didn't mean to say that you shouldn't photograph children. They are part of a cultural context and are perfect subjects. I just wanted to say that I personally find it difficult to photograph them in these situations because I simply don't want to be misunderstood. I would understand the reaction of an uncooperative parent in this regard. It might be that I'm influenced by the environment I live in, where such actions are never well-received, and probably, I wouldn't like it either if a stranger photographed my child. It was just a thought.

@@jamie.dop_ I didn’t mention anything about malice or ill intent with photos of children. I said I personally don’t take photos of children because I know just how horrible people can be and I’d rather ovoid situations like this over children or any accusations involving children. As for classifying my own photos I’d rather leave that to other people. After all you’re not exactly breaking the mold with your photos are you? Are you doing anything innovative and fresh? Have you or are you shooting something we haven’t seen before?
