@autremen3 жыл бұрын
@@hakeryk yes the RPMs did go up slightly, I believe it is because when the fans turned on the altenator would have an extra load on it and to compensate the engine would speed up a little to keep from stalling. I'm no mechanic it's just what I believe.

Same problem here. My fans were switching on and off at first and the AC wasn't cooling as expected. Heard a weird noise (clicks) coming from that box and then the fans just stopped working. At that point, a blue-ish/Black-ish smoke started to come from the exhaust. I replaced the box with a new one and all problems solved :)

labor intensive job and if you're out of shape like me, it will double the replacement time. It took me a little over an hour and thats with on and off rain. I just unhooked connectors from the top, I did not unhook connectors from bottom. It was much easier this way. The bear was unsnapping the smaller of the connectors from module terminal. The key was to listen to the ''click'' while inserting flat tip screwdriver. I did the whole job as he instructed Wouldn't have found module or been able to complete job without this video. Really helpful and thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge! BTW, I did it on my 2001 Audi TT so instructions and part are the same as this video describes.

Thank JamieJones, I have been blowing through these on several Mk4 Golfs, but need to note the 2003 GOLF VR6 uses one with an "N" not a "K" and Gates, which makes aftermarket ones, also has it listed as a separate part number. What I have found after replacing six of these on a few cars recently is that the cheap clone units I bought use a thinner gauge relay which is less tolerant of the aged electronics in older cars (old fans pulling too much current, corroded wiring and fuse box, etc.) All the ones I opened up after a failure had melted relays, and all were clones I got for $25 or so. Thanks for all you do to help us fix this stuff!

My 2009 Volkswagen Jetta started overheating a few years ago, I soon realized that the fan was working erratically. For example, it never overheated while running on a hot day when there was no traffic - only in stop and go traffic. It seems when air was moving through the engine, the engine stayed cool. Recently, the fan stopped turning off at all when I turned off the car, it would keep running until the battery drained. Now, every time I park the car, I have to unplug the battery to keep it from being dead when I return to my car. I'm going to try to change out the relay myself and see if that fixes the problem. I'll respond if it solves the problem. I appreciate a 25$ fix over a 750$ fix from the mechanic!

OK not 100% sure on the Australian models but generally it’s hidden somewhere underneath the bumper cover inside the bumper but when you do find it come back and post so other people can see it because they had that thing everywhere so the more people we can get the share of the better off it is in good luck

So that particular model gets its signal from a few things like the engine coolant temperature sensor are also there’s a few relays what would be nice if someone could put it on a scanner for you that can actually test the system that be the way to do it you can do that pretty inexpensive my scanner does it but I would think you can get about any shop to run a scanner on it and pinpoint it and it be cheaper than keep trying to switch out parts because you’ve already done the basic if it’s not the module are you sure the fans work
@jamiejonesthecarman4 жыл бұрын
Oh my bad I just seen where you said you put brand new fans in so if everything’s new then you’re probably dealing with a relay or some break down in the system electrically so I would definitely put it on the scanner you should be able to get it done for 50 to 100 bucks

@lite19796 жыл бұрын
If you have no power going to the fans, it could be the fuse on top of the battery. The fuse tray there is notorious for warping/melting and breaking the connection to the fan fuse. I would also check the radiator temperature sensor. Pull the connector (it's in a really tight space in my '01 Audi TT), jumper each of the pins to ground and see if your fans come on.
