Even stock, these things were a blast. I wanted one as soon as I saw the original advertisement with a Beetle entering the corner and a Fox exiting the corner. I was not disappointed when bought a 2 year old ‘87 base 2dr. (Only ac and a dealer fit Blaplunkt cassette player, no pass. Side mirror!) My 20 year old self drove the hell out of it for about 3 years with no failures. Good torquey little motor. Good handling and brakes. Decent seats and ride comfort. A real driver’s economy car.... a trait few care about in the USA. I don’t think these were ever offered with an automatic transmission which was another limiting factor of their appeal in this country. I do recall, with so many unique parts, maintenance was not cheap! Brake pads cost the same on my lowly Fox as the Mercedes 300D my stepdad drove at the time. Oh, my mom’s daily back then was an ‘83 Quantum. We weren’t the average family when it came to cars

Hi Jamie! actually in Argentina we didn´t have a 3 door Senda. We had the Gacel (with the big square front lights, air vents at the front windows and kind square rear lights. It had a restyling with a different front lights and grill and a change of coulours of the rear lights), then the Gacel got a restyling again that include the front and rear of your orange Fox, different interior and dashboard. The engine in both were the same AP. The Gacel had the 1.6 and 1.8, and with the restyling VW introduced the Gacel GS that was a 1.8 with more power and Recaro interior. The third restyling that the Gacel had was actually the born of the Senda, the Gacel GLS (1992 aprox) was like a Senda but 1.8, was the top version of the Gacel. Then it came the Senda (1992 to end of production).. it was like the Gacel GLS but 1.6 . Have your like sir! Cheers from Argentina!
@JamieOrr4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, great input! I totally agree about the Gacel e Senda only being four door. In North America all models were called the Fox, 2/4/Wagon, so I have a habit of describing the early Fox as the Gacel, and the facelift later version as the Gacel, whether 2 door coupe or 4 door sedan, oops.

Jamie, I am so happy to hear your enthusiasm about your fox. Yes, the 1st gear on my wife’s ‘80 Dasher diesel wagon 1.6 non turbo is very short. She doesn’t drive it. She lets me, but we have a few parts cars and the one I bought does have a 1.6 turbo diesel. Audi should have made that a slightly taller gear. What I have read is that the longitudinal design is an audi layout. The audi 80, vw fox, dasher, quantum all had this layout. The B3, of which I owned also and wished I still had, was the first generation of the transverse engine design. I promised my wife I would not drive the car too hard since the engine was new and has less then 5k miles on it since she had it replaced. The old 1.5 diesel stroker had bad piston rings and it lost compression. I didn’t know torque steer was caused by uneven length driveshafts. Thanks for sharing that. We have a parts car dasher with a three speed auto. A five door hatchback diesel I put the no. 1 connecting rod through the block of. Sorry, honey. The diesel is a finicky beast. I’ve never driven a gas dasher/passat B1 yet, but the three speed automatic one we have does have a gas engine. I think it is a 1.6 gas with jetronic injection. Three wagons and a hatchback. We love these cars. Would you ever consider moving up your transmission to the B2 quantum 5 speed? I think our wagon needs it to get over 60 mph without killing our new engine.

Nice and unique... so that's a 9A 16v then? I was always after an ABF when I had my fully built 16v. You are running MS2 I'm guessing? Gotta love the ease and affordability of tuning from Megasquirt, along with the awesome support group that uses it. What are you running for an oil cooler? Glad you added the external one, as the 16v runs on the hotter side to begin with. Mishimoto makes a really cheap all aluminum radiator for the civic when your end tanks start leaking, it would be a good investment over the OEM ones. I ALMOST pulled the trigger on some Hayward Performance ITB'S for mine, although I ended up selling the whole drivetrain out of my chassis for a great price so I never got them. Audi 4000 gauges? I had a set in a few of my cars. Probably the best OEM upgrade for cheap to the interior of any VW/ Audi that doesn't have them already. Great rare and unique car, and I'm glad you are running a proper set of coilovers and not some bags. Looks like you could use a set of engine and trans mounts. Motor was moving pretty good on acceleration. Its also hard to tell on my phone but the t-belt looks like it could use a change soon. Appears to have a good amount of wear on the center. Might be a good time to throw on an adjustable cam gear, and or internal adj gears from Kent. They are great when your running an aggressive cam setup and you want to change the powerband around. I had the Kent internals, Techtonics main gear, Autotech HD springs, titanium retainers, Ferrara valves, a set of 'fast road' Shricks, and a gas flowed head. Revved really high and sounded great. I can only imagine the motor I built with a set of ITB's. Good work man, and thank you very much for sharing! 👍😎
