@Akherousia5026 жыл бұрын
Bro, Killswitch is just Americanized melodic death metal. They're absolutely incredible, but calling them pioneers just seems like a stretch when the same thing has existed overseas before they came along.
@justinfromok71285 жыл бұрын
@@Akherousia502 However you wanna slice it up you have to give credit where its due and this band was a big part of bringing this music to the forefront and exposing it to the masses. At least on this side of the pond.
@Akherousia5025 жыл бұрын
@@justinfromok7128 I'm not going to disagree with that at all, I just feel that pioneer is a term reserved for those who really set a new standard. They're a bit more like importers than anything. They took a style that existed elsewhere, tuned it to make it their own, and then built an American version of the scene off of it - but the fact remains that everything Killswitch were doing was already happening overseas years before they came into the picture. I'm not trying to disrespect the band for this or anything, they're actually one of the few bands of their style that I genuinely really like because I feel a lot of the competition only brings a few great riffs but scatters them with poor composition whereas Killswitch hit the mark with fantastic songwriting. I just think people should be a little more attentive and realize that they didn't just come out of left-field with this songwriting style. It was an inspiration drawn from another scene already happening elsewhere. I point it out not to discredit them, but to help people realize that a lot of metalcore is actually rooted in melodic death metal. Their influence in crafting an American audience for it, and putting their own twist on things which helped define a new genre in itself isn't to be denied, though.

I remember when I found their singles on a website called mp3.com a website where unsigned bands or otherwise could post their mp3s. There was usually only 2 or 3 songs. But I found these ones and picked up the album right away. This was right when metal was getting boring, and even though the lyrics were pretty emo, the riffs and tone were absolutely crushing. As I Lay Dying was another band I found on here and knew that we were in for a drastic shift in what was considered popular metal.
