I was at church today. And so many people complimented me and said I was elegant and demure. They said "you even speak softly and elegantly." And they said that I look like something out of a film 😂A man said "now that's a lady!" It's thanks to you ❤ I'm 15 years old

loved it! I would love to add that traditionally one of the reasons we serve coffee in 1/3 finjan is due to a hospitality manner, as it show to the guests that they’re welcome and that they aren’t burden on the host ( that why the host/ server is always around ). It’s consider inappropriate to serve the finjan full. and of course thank you, I appreciate ur consideration

I really liked the video, it's very beautiful, and since I love our coffee culture, let me tell you more about Saudi coffee, Bismillah - First, since I said Bismillah, when we eat or drink something in particular and when we do anything in general (even when entering a place), we say Bismillah - Second, Saudi coffee has multiple recipes from the Al-Aqqa region, its main ingredient is coffee and cardamom, then we may add ginger, saffron, cloves (we call it nail 🤣), mastic, and fennel - Third, when serving coffee, we only fill a third of the cup or mug (it has two names) because filling it more than this is considered an indication of annoyance with the guest (it is possible to fill it more than a third between the family because we know very well that none of us is annoyed with the other, but we want to drink more) - Fourth, there are five indications of drinking coffee (some of them are old and we do not apply them these days) * The first cup that the host drinks is an indication that the coffee is not poisoned * Second A cup - is the first cup offered to the guest) the guest drinks it, he must drink it except in two cases (enmity or he has a difficult request that he asks the host to fulfill, if he fulfills it for him the guest drinks coffee) * The third cup (the second cup offered to the guest) is called Al-Kaif (mood adjustment) the guest drinks it to adjust his mood and enjoy the coffee * The fourth cup (the third cup offered to the guest) is called Al-Sayf as soon as he drinks it, it means that the guest stands with the host in good times and bad * The fifth cup, there is someone who asks the sheikh (the ruler of the tribe in the past) to take his right from another person, so the sheikh gathers the young men of the tribe and pours coffee from it then raises it up saying (this is the cup of so-and-so, son of so-and-so, whoever drinks it and takes his right, then one of the brave men comes to drink it and says I am the one who will take revenge

Out of excitement, I forgot to tell you about our customs when serving coffee before I told you about the connotations of drinking it 🤣😅 - The one who serves coffee to the guests is always the host and the youngest is the one who serves it, not the oldest - When pouring, we either start with the oldest person in the council out of respect for him or with the right (because in our Islamic religion, everything is done with the right, entering a place with our foot, greeting, offering something to drink or eat, everything) - As my sister Sarah said in the video, we hold the coffee pot with the left hand and the cup with the right (it is shameful to offer something to someone with the left hand) - When we Offer the cup, we say (tafadl or tegahow or sm) - When we are satisfied with drinking, we have two signs without speaking, either we shake the cup or we put our hand on top (as if we are closing it) And thus I hope that I have informed you of everything related to Saudi coffee All The information is from the depths of my Saudi heart and I have confirmed it through the Ministry of Culture website: Saudi Coffee Year 2022❤️ Thank you and welcome to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia🇸🇦

That was lovely! I have to add that I always get scolded by my father if I accidentally filled his cup because filling the “fenjal” to the top is considered taboo since it indicates to the guests that you are bothered by them and you don’t want to give them your time and serve them properly. Some people even use it as a sign to tell someone that they don’t want them around like it’s a hidden message of “please just finish drinking quickly and go away” so they will fill the cup to the brim for only that nasty guest and serve it with a fake smile lol

I love this video!😍 It is true that dates are traditionally served with Saudi coffee but nowadays on special occasions people will also serve what we call "حلا قهوة" or “coffee desserts” which are essentially bite sized desserts that can be easily eaten with your hand while enjoying a conversation. It’s different from the kind of desserts served after a meal where they would be plated and eaten with a fork or spoon. Another popular option is stuffed dates that can have many fillings, usually nuts. This adds variety as part of hospitality when serving a bigger party.
@JamilaMusayevaАй бұрын
I have seen these kind of dates as well.

This video made me realize something interesting. I initially found Sara’s tone and way of speaking, like starting or ending sentences with “ok,” a bit impolite for my taste. But after thinking it over, I understand it might just be her natural way of communicating. I’ve come across several colleagues and clients who speak in a similar manner, and I believe there’s no intention of being rude - it’s just their style. This video gave me a new perspective on that!
@JamilaMusayevaАй бұрын
I think it has to do with the fact that English is not her first language and it might be a habit from her own language.
@sahama2861Ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing that aspect, never thought about it.

In Arabic, people use the word "Taiyb" when they speak, and it is hard to translate or convey its connotation in English, but I can say it is a graceful version of "well" and has a positive connotation. A lot of Saudis, when they learn English as a second language, use "ok" as an equivalent (interestingly, language habits move around with you when you learn a new language as an adult). As an Arabic speaker, I totally get what she means. However, I learned to use "nice!" instead.

You probably explained this, but does the guest receiving the coffee hold up the cup for the coffee to be poured into it, or does the server pour the coffee into the cup on the table? And is it the same way. whichever it is, for a second cup? Is the coffee more or less “strained” when you drink it, or is there sediment in the cup? Thank you!

Please Jamila, could you address how to politely refuse something that you're being offered but that you really don't like, without offending your host? In my homecountry it's all about coffee as well and I get offered coffee all the time and I personally hate it, but it could be anything really, not just coffee 😄 don't want to sound rude or entitled when refusing

I am from Oman, and I would assume that most GC countries would have this etiquette rule. When you are done with coffee and need no more, you should shake the cup before handing it to the servant. This is a gesture that you don’t want more coffee to be poured into your cup. And the servant will collect your cup. 🇴🇲

@jamilaMusayeva thanks for the video, but the lady sis not explain the right way to serve coffee, you should check videos with crowd and how the coffee guy serve it, how the people take it, not what to do,, because any mistake for arabs means disrespect “with seeving coffee” and finally if there is more than 3-4 people how is the right way to serve them by holding the cups. Im telling you this because i suffered teaching the servants. And yea, every gulf country has 2-3 ways to serve the arabic coffee…
