I have to say, this is the Mark Tuello I would like to see more of in the show. Most of the time he's so spineless and mostly operates as a yes-man for Serena's every whim and seems to forget that he's dealing with a war criminal and not the Queen of England. But this Tuello is bad-ass. I hope to see more of this version of him in Season 5.

I went through a range of emotions in this episode. The Waterfords got so cocky and demanding, I wanted to see justice done. It was so satisfying to see Fred get that arrogance snatched out of him and feel the fear June wanted him to feel. It was satisfying up until the point they were about to kill him then a sadness came over me-not for Fred for the women. They’d been forced to deliver this justice before in Gilead and this time they chose to do it. Probably hoping they would get something back. But it just took more away from them and Gilead has done damage that will follow them forever-they’ll never really be free of it😥Even when June gets the blood on the baby I got it-Nicole has been scarred by Gilead too. As a survivor of sexual abuse I realized in this episode something was taken from me that I can’t get back no matter what. This show is transcending.

Terrific finale, but it kind of ruined the epilogue of the book in a way given that it was mentioned that Fred was among the many commanders killed in the "Gilead purges" where Gilead itself cleaned house on hypocrites and sinners. Sadly, since the show altered and shook it up this way, I think Commander Lawrence will assume Fred's book fate given that he is what Gilead hunted and killed in those purges, a sinning and hypocrite commander. I honestly wanted an ending for Fred where Serena would have been a witness to it like she possibly was in the book. I wonder how season 5 will play out...It will likely be the show's final season given that Fred was a crucial part of the show.

I think Joseph, Nick, and Aunt Lydia will be responsible for the purges. With all three in positions of power, I think they’ll try to stabilize Gilead. That starts with purging those who are like Fred. SPOILERS: Here is my reasoning: Lydia was the top ranking Aunt in Gilead. She knew that most high ranking officials in Gilead were rapist. What if Jospeh changed the laws around the ceremony? What if they changed aspects of the Handmaid system and left the rest of Gilead alone? Women are property, therefore part of the economy, which Joseph presided over.

I think the US knew something was up before Gilead took over the government and that they sent undercover CIA/FBI agents to these factions in order to dismantle them but it was too late and some of these agents got trapped in Gilead and had to survive...I think Nick is one of these agents. Cause he very soon in the show, (season1), showed that he had enough power to try to get june out 3 times^^ with the help of the resistance, and also take down Fred when Nick was nothing but a driver that suddenly ended up commander ( how the fuck did that happen!!). And I think that when June tried to bargain with the authority in season 3 and that they said that Nick was unreliable it was to maintain his cover. Even in our reality during wars secret agents had to built a life for themselves in the enemy territory cause they couldn't escape, they often had a wife and children. He's not escaping cause he gotta stay and help dismantle Gilead, probably also cause the US government won't exonerate him for the crimes he had to commit in order to survive, if he doesn't do his job and take down Gilead.

@@Ryan-eu3kp Okay I don't think you understood the real function of Gilead and what is it about. They basically built the whole country on "children", but the only thing they really care about is power, never the children. Their actions were never selfless, never really about saving human race. They didn't even really care about God in my opinion, they rewritten the Bible so it would be beneficial to them, God is just perfect excuse for everything in Gilead. They knew, that they are not doing God's work, only theirs. Some of those abusers I think convinced themselves that they're doing a good job, but deeply in their hearts, they knew the truth. Just like Fred, who was running through those woods scared af. He was scared not just because he knew he is going to die horribly, but also because he knew that he is not going to heaven for his purely selfish and unhuman actions. And be sure as hell that he didn't follow the Old Testament, he did whatever he wanted and displayed it as "God's work". Ugh. Maybe in the very very very early start of the idea of Gilead, specifically when it was something like 'hey what can we do so the human race don't extinct?', then MAYBE at that time some of their thoughts (of founders of Gilead) were "pure". Later? No. Absolutely not. They hurt not only women but also children, they basically hurt everybody BUT a few men - commanders. Gilead was only beneficial to them, not the human race.

@@k_her7415 "Giliad was only beneficial to them, not the human race" Actually it was beneficial to the human race. Humans were on the verge of becoming extinct. Let's say that humans were going to live for another 100,000 years. With hundreds of generations of laughter and love, but 1 if those generations had to endure hardship. There’s so much about this show/ season that I don’t understand. First is how did Fred’s speech in the courtroom result in so many supporters? Do some extremists in Canada actually want Handmaid’s because they think it’s the only thing that works, clearly it’s not the only thing that works. They seemed to be doing fine using consensual surrogacy. Also who is really in charge at Gilead and why is it still going on? Nick and Lawrence seem to be the most powerful and they’re against it so why not make changes? It seems like the other commanders don’t have as much power. And is Nick really against it, or only when it comes to June? Overall I was disappointed in this season because they turned June into a monster.

Isn't Tuello an American citizen, a former CIA agent. It's probably nitpicking, but I don't quite believe he would be working on behalf of the Canadian government, as he seems to be doing here, managing Gilead-Canadian relations...unless he has dual citizenship, which i guess most of them do at this point...

The Canadian government is letting the USA run a sort of shadow government from their territory. England was the home of multiple European governments during WW2 so there is a precedence for this

Hes actually working as the american government, Canada has allowed the usa to set up goverment again in their country, but yeah he would now have Canadian citizenship to protect himself, because america no longer exists, he needs that protection

Some real US border crossings contain bridges that are bigger and would show flags.
