I really like how they didn't flick to any other character's faces during this. All the focus is on the victim.

So true! It's devastating how these Offred's never got to reach Canada and maybe they didn't survive any longer after their stories ended. At least now, through the series, we can see that there is hope for Gelead's demise.

I absolutely love that throughout this, they didn't move from June's face. Usually when a character says something that would cause an emotional response of some kind in another character, the show cuts to that person's reaction. This decision shows that they are focused on June's story and the rest is secondary. Love it.

Best part about this is just how it actually looks and sounds realistic. It's not "overly-hollywood" for lack of a better term, this footage looks like it could've been a real speech spoken by a real person.

Gilead is not on trial, Fred is. Plus, this is only supposed to be a small testimony before the trial even began, it's not the same as a witness being questioned by a lawyer. At the end, Fred's lawyer questions her because she consents to this, not because she is on the witness stand.

@@gabrielacard7050 Yes it matters because she has a limited time to say what Fred did to her. The DC fact would have been ignored has Fred wasn't in charge of DC and so technically wouldn't be held responsible for this particuliar thing. We know he enables it because it's all about power but as Fred isn't in charge of DC, you can't say this for HIS trial. In this scene June doesn't even speak about her rapes in Jezabel even though we know Fred raped her there. Laws don't care about what you want June to say. It was very smart of her to not talk about Gilead as a whole as Fred was in trial not Gilead. It does matter and basic facts proves that. Men in charge of DC would be judge for the rings around the handmaid's mouths. As Fred should be charge for allowing or giving orders to cute fingers, eyes among other body parts.

@@gabrielacard7050it would have discredited her in the eyes of the court to try to bring other "irrelevant" facts into the case. she is playing the logic game the same way the big players play it. it's smart to stay focused on the facts about the trial specifically (Fred). she should not have said anything else on this stand, but yes there are other things that need to be said

This was the IRL year the show started so I assume it ties to that. How the character would know, well she was a regular US citizen before Gilead so would of know what year she was in! Edit: Wrong assumptions. See reply below for answer
@driftingsoul7355
@driftingsoul7355 3 жыл бұрын
@@gilbotron88 In the show, Gilead was declared in 2014, its an alternate timeline from ours. In fact, they show that June didn’t realize what year it was until season 3. When she was able to look at handmaids files in the Lawrence household basement. That’s when she realized that at that time it was 2019, and now it’s 2021. So for the first 5 years of Gilead, she really didn’t know what year it really was. She only found out she arrived at the Waterford’s House in 2017 because either 1. Did the math in her head as her first posting was two years. Or 2. Genuinely didn’t know until 2019.

His lawyers would’ve shredded this testimony. Being a law student to become a defensive lawyer kinda ruins some things like this, instinctively I start ticking off the inconsistencies and thinking of how to use them to unravel her credibility. 😖 The credibility of a character I love and I’m obsessed with this show. I remember the moment that everything came clear, I now truly why people hate lawyers lol. I would NOT have taken on a client like this intentionally, these are NOT the people I would ever want to defend. However, as I would like to begin as a PD but there’s a chance you don’t have a choice. I will never forgot Jodi Aria’s PD, the case literally killed him. Regardless of your crime you DO deserve a fair trial but god help the attorneys like him.

@@ArthurWahoowa Prosecution tries to get a criminal in jail - for the benefit of the society. The lawyer of the criminal often KNOWS what the client has really done but willently tries his best to set him free nevertheless, and they do often take part in making victims suffer even more. THAT is why so many people hate lawyers.

@@tokarukoro8196 This is the problem in a legal case: we don't know whether a criminal is guilty or innocent. To determine this successfully we need skilled lawyers representing both the prosecution and the defendant as well as a skilled judge and jury to find the truth.
