Can you imagine how pleasant that was? Dude, I bet when they finished recording this 10 min version they became extremely proud of themselves... this is the best version by far! I really love this song and when I found this version I felt like I was in heaven. 7:35 - 10:11 is the perfection achieved in music.

Music perfection! Wow what an outstanding version, I wish I could have it nearly 30 years ago... Jason, Toby, Stuart and the horn section at their best. I have lots of good memories while listening to it, building my music foundations with Jamiroquai, Steely Dan, Tears for Fears...

@Incog2k68 жыл бұрын
Wow, this is the first time I've heard this version. The guitar solo at the end is amazing! Also, who knew that the violins mimic what Jay is singing during the chorus? You obviously can barely make it out in the album due to the vocals on top. Nice! Now I'm kind sad that they changed the ending of the album version. They removed 5 minutes and copy pasted a 1-minute version of the chorus, lol. They should've just added this version instead.
@KyuuraTV4 жыл бұрын
I can't listen to the album version anymore... not without thinking about this one!

This version came on the vinyl version of the album. When You Gonna Learn is much longer and better too than the radio version used on CD and cassette. Think one more track is longer on vinyl as well. It was a double album there's a great untitled extra track on the vinyl only of Travelling Without Moving as well. Yes the 10 min version of TYTD is the best. Total classic and great jazzy sections

Joel Gabriel Totally agree, hence why it pains me that newer Jamiroqai fans only care about stuff from "Travelling without Moving" onwards. Nothing wrong with wanting to dance live to "Little L" or "Canned Heat", but let's be honest: the first 2 albums were Jamiroquai at their best.
@sillyslim47697 жыл бұрын
Incog2k6 first three were the best for sure The change they went through after twm I feel sounds worse overall But I think Jay had a change of mind from after emergencys release to space cowboy about radicalism or something and valued dancing his blues away with another more, thus changing how he felt and reflected it with his music And look at it this way, since the first three are predominantly acid jazz and not disco you can value these three more this way :]

Impeccable arrangements! Flawless sophistication!! Out of sight horn section, and beautiful instrumentation. Didn’t know they were this jazzy until now. Q for the musicians here: is this now a straight sixteenth or swung feel? Feels like both works, triplet swing or sixteenth, but then slightly shuffled, New Orléans style. Seems to be slightly in the middle.

Also that Brazilian/Stevie drumming pops up.
@zig0194 жыл бұрын
The underlying groove is straight sixteenths for sure I'd say, but I'd notate this groove as a funk on a chart. There's definitely a swinging element to it, but that comes from the combination of the straightish groove with the more syncopated bass line. Getting in that pocket is really hard but man when it works it works!!
