Cheers. Always good to keep tools quality going rather than them going to waste. Satisfying too. Good luck with yours.

Very useful. Thanks, all too easy to ‘chuck’ it out! (Sorry)😂 you’ve saved my drill from landfill too 👍

This is very interesting and informative, but could you do some close ups of the broken parts, how they look in situ, and taking the chuck off, is it left hand or right handed thread. These would be helpful for me, if my makita goes wrong any time soon 👍👍👍

Thanks for your suggestions. I have a couple of other videos dealing with the details of chuck removal, if you're interested you can find them in this playlist kzbin.info/aero/PLc_EKq_vWBDD8S1_CmFT3MoJRjByn62l8

Thanks for the great tool repair videos. You have inspired me to refurbish my DHP482 rather than bin it. What is a compatible metal chuck that I can upgrade from plastic like you did to with the one in this video?
@ShedTV3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I think the DHP482 is a great drill; I've got a couple myself. Any chuck with a 1/2" x 20 UNF thread should fit it. They're readily available on eBay and Amazon. The only fitting problem I've encountered was with one particular chuck where the threaded part was slightly recessed causing the chuck to foul on the gearbox. I solved this with an M12 washer.

I won't be able to measure as I am ordering the parts. Do you know the model number of a drill with a chuck that would work?
@ShedTV3 жыл бұрын
@@williampallagi4395 These are the chucks which I have used. Virtually all drills this sort of size have a half inch chuck thread. Smaller drills will sometimes have a 1/4" chuck. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332809158731

So when that bolt holding the chuck on is jammed up and wont loosen up, what do you do? I have the same drill and I got to the point of removing the bolt but I am unable to turn it

Good vid ,with a bit more elbow grease and 3 in 1 oil soking the chuck in a plastick bag for a couple of days.,could have saved the OG trigger and chuck.These things are built to last.
@ShedTV3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The switch feels like there's something broken inside, but you might be right; I chucked it in my box of bits, maybe I'll have another go at it. I have to disagree about the plastic collar chucks though, once they've jammed they're never the same again in my experience. I've been using this drill a lot this week, and it is a good strong old drill, you're right!

@@ShedTV I have the same Li-ion and 2 nicads it seems the older ones non brushless have less failures, but the chicks are the same and one of mine was like yours rusty and draggy with some WD-40 to start and Long soak in oil now works fine even though one of the 3 jaws is 2 steps behind the others and the plastic is misshaped. But put a drill bit - drills straight and same when screwing things up. I need to make some vids how I brake and mend things too. Last week reversed the polarity on an 14.4v and blew the trigger switch-it was tough but not Idiot proof. New one on the way. Last night got an Li-ion battery fixed but broke 3.Grest Fun.

I've changed a few with no issues, but first time doing a Makita the hex key is stuck in the chuck now and will not come out. Spins both ways without releasing. I'm guessing that it is ready for landfill.....

Hmm. That’s annoying. If you’ve got five minutes have a look at a video where I dealt specifically with chuck removal in detail. It may give you inspiration. Hope you can fix it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4PGmYRma5uSr7M
