Same as Toyota Echo, but our passeger side (Canada) has the power steering hoses in the way of the back bolt of the sway bar horseshoe bracket. How do you sneak past those? I was thinking of a crows foot wrench if I cant get in there with a really small socket wrench. What a stupid design for a part that needs regular maintenance. If only there was an expanding rubber that could be sprayed into those gaps... Also thought about undoing the front bracket bolt, levering the sway bar to get the old bushing out, cutting the flange off of one side of the new bushing and sliding it in. A hose clamp around the sway bar would keep a smaller/modified bushingfrom backing out.

Have you had any problems with the RCD tripping when running the welder at higher setting? Its something i was told not to do for the welding curcuit, not to have a RCD on it. Maybe its fine unless the welder is bigger than a home welding set up. Im not sure.

I don't have that barn anymore, and it was while ago. I think the RCD was pretty stable unless I tried to weld 12mm plate continuously, but by then the welder thermally cut out anyway, I seem to remember.

Haven't been able to free the chuck despite drilling the head off the screw. You know I wonder about the economics of repairing these drills when a) you get fairly long warranties and replacements of you have to pay are so cheap. My advice to beginners is to buy a bigger hammer drill than you think you need, use good quality bits with hard quad ends (although note that carbide can be too brittle perhaps), take your time to get the hole started and avoid drilling close to an edge that can blow out. Because it will and it will make the job a pain.

Thanks for the info. The only problem it doesn't describe much on KZbin is how to get a seized centre screw out (held with locktight) found a video that showed heating the chuck up. After the third attempt it worked for me, but Christ it was tight in. 😬

I tried this solution and others on KZbin that use a hammer instead of their sense. My solution was to remove the left hand screw as shown, but know that this may take 2 people, one to press down on the screwdriver and the other to turn it clockwise to loosen. Next, instead of hammering on an allen key, use a hammer drill. I tried the beat on it method for 2 days and got nowhere and was making a mess of my drill body. I realized that the solution was torque and what better than a hammer drill to provide that. I cut off the L end of the allen key and inserted it in both chucks. Se the hammer drill to run in reverse and gave it a couple of shots on the trigger and the Makita chuck spun right off. Moral, don't use a hammer, use your head. Thanks!

@ShedTV
@ShedTV 4 ай бұрын
I use the biggest and longest I have, depending on the chuck size, but if your chuck is jammed open you're not going to be able to jam an allen key in; it won't grip and as soon as you hit it, it will spin. I recommend you squirt a load of WD40 or similar down there then get the chuck in a vice and try to get the jaws moving using the motor. Mind you don't break your wrist! You could initially put some cloth around it to not rip it up, but if it's really jammed, just tighten it fast in the vice and see if you can get it free enough to grip the allen key. I did make a video years ago where I did something similar, have a look at my channel. Good luck!

@@johnmooney1213 Sometimes the ratchet mechanism which drives the three 'jaws' strips or jams. To be honest at this point, with the chuck probably needing replacement, I'd get the screw out then clamp the chuck in a vice and use the motor to try to free it off. Be careful though, I once nearly broke my wrist doing this and I'm a big fat bloke!

Hello mate, There's no LED on this one. Since making the video I've used the DSS610, which is basically the same unit but with an electronic brake which stops the blade when you release the trigger and an LED worklight. It felt more controlled and I think it's worth the extra few quid. I've not tried a Milwaukee, for no other reason than I'm set up with Makita batteries.

My old drill was also 18v. You could also use a 18v battery on a 14v or even 12v drill, but it will spin faster, and if you work it hard it might overheat. To be honest, with the fact that the old ni-cad drills are worthless now it would probably be worth the gamble. The other thing to say is that this vido is seven years old, LXT drills are much cheaper now and secondhand ones can be had for less the price of an adaptor in many cases.

Pop a slightly pointed red hot rod down the chuck hole for ten seconds or so so you heat the left hand screw head as it's likely set in with a thermoplastic glue .

Greeting from Canada. I need to replace the sway bar bushings on my 2004 toyota echo. I just wonder if it is necessary to take out the sway bar link before removing the sway bar bushing. Also, can I just drive the car on a pair of ramps instead of jacking the car up? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have two welders one a 'Lidl Special' and a Eland Mig 230 that is an industrial machine but still single phase (240V). Both my machines work off of a normal plug socket although I'm thinking of 'upgrading' the Eland up to a 16 AMP dedicated plug socket. The Lidl machine has never tripped a breaker in the 5 years I have used it and yesterday I had it running on an 20m extension cable (at one point welding for 30 secs continuously)...No problems at all. I wouldn't be too worried about your set up I think your home supply should be okay and it will let you know quickly if its not happy. Fuses and breakers do that for you it would ony be a 'worry' if the machine had been modified or tampered with in some way.

Any tips how to remove a stuck screw?
@ShedTV
@ShedTV 8 ай бұрын
This can be very difficult. A good quality screwdriver which fits the slot in the screw is key. Preferably with a good sized handle for maximum leverage. Perversely, you may loosen it by trying to turn a quarter turn the other way (anti-clockwise in this case), before trying to undo it. I know some people have had success using an impact driver, but if you strip the head you are in a whole world of pain and misery, potentially drilling out the screw or cutting off the chuck.

Nice video thanks, still helping people years later. I had a lot of freestanding racking in my garage but it was taking up too much space and I wanted to use the garage as a workshop not just a storage area! I never considered this twin slot stuff before in the past (no idea why) but now that i've started using it it's so fast to install in a garage! I have a laser level on a tripod, I project a line onto the wall at the intended middle screw hole of the uprights and then marked at 60cm intervals. Drilled the holes and attached the uprights loosely with a single screw, then used a spirit level to make sure they were bolt upright, and then marked the additional screw holes with a tracer deep hole marker as required. That's the fastest approach i've found and my shelves are perfectly level. Excluding any jigsawing of the shelves around cable conduits etc it only took around 30 mins per 2m run of shelves.
