In this video we tear down a 350 Small Block Chevy to perform cleaning & bore the cylinders .030" over. The block is torque plate honed & cam bearings/freeze plugs are reinstalled. The customer will be using this block for a 383 stroker they are working on.
We also wrap up some work on a 402 Big Block Chevy that was in the shop, including installing new Keith Black pistons on the newly reconditioned connecting rods w/ ARP Wave-Loc Bolts.

Yes, that your dad had the foresight to start a well run business to support his family, and now you get the proper training to be a good machinist and will eventually take over this business. I wish I could have had that guidance and pathway when I was growing up. I hope your success grows with the KZbin exposure you are getting as it seems to have helped other successful channels. Well done.

A guy on U tube Chris morloc had content above yours and I watched a video on a little tool designed to scrap 3 angles onto a valve seat. Hold on it gets better. He claims that automotive machine shops don't take there time there for his work is better. It gets better. Then he said the reason a valve seat has 3 angles is for air flow. Can't make this up. Dropped some knowledge on him about the 3 angles and told him to check your channel out before comparing. You're welcome Jim.

Wot! No crank clearancing? Stock blocks require pan rail and the bore bottoms clearances for 3.75" cranks, i guess the customer is doing that? I built a .040" 385, i got lucky it had been a 383 in its past life, so clearance was done already, i went with 5150 crank and rods, and ARP main studs, and head studs, along with forged pistons, aluminum heads, head studs with 11.5:1 compress is almost overkill, along with a MLS gasket, i only wish I went with a roller cam, and lower compression, so it would be turbo friendly! You do awesome work, I wish I lived closer to your shop!

Is the 383 getting a stock 400 crank, or an aftermarket crank? I was under the impression a 383 was a .030 over 350 with a 400 crank, and required clearancing inside the block for the bigger crank. I imagine someone probably makes a crank that doesn't require clearancing.

sir I have a question maybe you can assist with,, here goes.. ,. Ok the chevy small block oil system from the research ive done ive read that the SBC uses a check valve in the oil filter housing that works on a pressure differential.. so,., I have read that a chevy small block with normal oil pressure is around 10 to 15 psi at hot idle.,. If a high volume, oil pump is installed, with no changes to the oil bypass valve in the engine, will the oil bypass the filter, and go thru the check valve instead.. also. when rebuilding an engine, how do you service or replace the oil pressure bypass valve... thank ye! would love to see a vid on the intricacies of the small block 88 to 94 oiling system. I see alot of vids where people buy a GMT 400 series truck, see the 12 to 15 psi oil pressure at warm Idle and panic. they put high flow high volume pumps in and feel they have taken care of the "problem" . but im wondering if they are creating a problem.

SBC's are notorious for warp'd bores. in most applications it makes minimal difference. Torque plate honing is done after rough boring to ensure a straighter bore for performance application (this procedure normally has additional cost) Just my experience.

As an amateur machinist it hurts me to see those mics hung up not layed down, but you guys do do nice work. Why not deck ur block after you know where ur piston sits in the bore so you can hit the quench you want. Maybe just not practacal for time required to assembly and siassemble for what the customer wants?
