Of all the 1000s of backing tracks I’ve jammed to this one might be my all time favorite! Absolutely great track, specially for people new to dorian who are trying to figure out how to use dorian and sound good ! I always tell people to stick to the pentatonic scale and just add your major 2nd and major 6th to that scale and then you basically got dorian. It’s easily to implement it. U just got to know how to plug it in

This is cool, E Mixolydian, E Dorian and E Blues also work really well, I particularly like E Blues with the added major 3rd as well as the minor.

I just play E Major/ c# minor pentatonic i use a LOT of chromaticism throughout to funkify it up even moreso and don't let the fear of knowing what mode or whatever i just focus on the killer lines throughout the whole arrangement at various times btw i like ending phrases on chordal tones 135 sometimes 7 and b7.....i could can and do play with this track all day long! Never gets boring using all the chromatics in between 🎶🎵🎶🎵
Very cool. Excellent groove and sound. The key is actually more D, so A Mixolydian and E Dorian.

Both E Mixolydian and E Dorian sound good to me over this track! The difference is only G# and G notes, respectively. Playing G and G# chromatically gives a good feel.

This is not mixolydian. It is E Dorian.

@@spinespindle9872 It is E dorian more than it is E mixloydian imo.

@@spinespindle9872 This is E dorian imo. E is the tonal center. D Ionian is the same thing as E dorian. The root note here is E, the notes are from the key of D major, it’s E dorian imo. Others here have tried to explain that that is the case too. Everyone will think what they will, but E dorian is the most prominent mode here imo, and not mixolydian.

@@spinespindle9872 Play a G# over this and you’ll see it sounds not as strong most of the time, especially if you play it over and over. I suspect it's because the melody plays a G natural. Now play a G natural. Sounds great, even played over and over. The C# you claim doesn’t work sounds great imo.
@BrickWilliamsGuitar Жыл бұрын
@@spinespindle9872 I suspect the chord being played that is causing confusion may be an E7#9. It has a G natural and a G#. The G is actually an F double #. An E blues scale sounds good over this. If you mix major and minor blues it gives the option of playing the G and G#. E dorian works well in conjunction with these. E mixolydian alone sounds not good to my ear, so I disagree with the original poster. E minor pentatonic works for sure, but is missing some possible magic. C# sounds fine, especially if it resolves up to D or down to B, since both are in an E7#9. All in all, an interesting track.

The only reason people are hearing dorian is because it's a dominant seven sharp 9 chord (E7#9)
@jacksonpayne34775 ай бұрын
yeah and mixolydian is not what you play over a dominant #9.
@3dge--runner5 ай бұрын
@@jacksonpayne3477 correct, 7#9 chords use the 7th mode of melodic minor (altered).
