I totally agree . Jan is a beautiful musician first and in my mind the best at using a guitar to broadcast his wonderful music . The sound of the lute brings memories of FOCUS back to me I saw them live in 1972 . I was 12 years old and my friends thought the bay city rollers were good. I had three albums on eight track and a small battery powered player. I didn't know I was listening to the best.

Totally unique ....73 ..74 ..76. . Still now, they all play as bleeding hell, so good, they; are around 76 years old . TOP NOTCH. But JAn never , ever plays with Thijs van Leer , cause in Jan's opinion he's a total arrogant mofu. well, sorry.

It's crazy how this guy could've out-played just about any guitarist who is held in high regard here in the US but we've never heard of him...he probably didn't fit into any specific genre and therefore was impossible to market in the states...great video - I've been playing guitar for 30 years and his musicianship makes me feel like a beginner... I guess it helps to be born a virtuoso 🔥

Hello Robert. Jan Akkerman is really a good and sensitive guitarist. Unfortunately he and his former band "Focus" were only known in Europe apart from the Netherlands and the songs were played here on the radio. Best wishes; I've also been playing the guitar for years, I've never learned it and I orient myself to my heroes such as Janne Schaffer / Santana / Jan Akkerman etc.

An informal UK - USA music industry coalition (the media moguls etc.) takes utmost care to - subtly - suppress the greatest musicians originating from other countries. This policy is tailored as to keep many such people "under the radar" so they don't "endanger" big stars of the native English speaking population. Few decades ago, when J. McLaughlin visited former Yugoslavia (he had a good friend living there) he was asked to listen to some local musicians and he was amazed. But, being suggested to support them by helping in organizing their tour(s) through West he just smiled and shook his head and explained how neatly and in a long term (for many years ahead) the venues and media activities are scheduled and the production of the vinyls and CDs is planned ...
