Strange to think that Arantxa was only 25 here and with the exception of her 1998 french open win, her best years were largely behind her. Her career following a pattern that was common in the men's game back then - so many players winning their last grand slam in their mid 20s (Edberg, Wilander, Borg, McEnroe)

Aranxta is a nice person and always gracious in defeat. I think Jana was mad because Aranxta always beat her especially during the 1996 french open where Jana made all the hard work beating Monica Seles, only to be beaten by Aranxta in the next round.

what happened between the two!??From partners in doubles to barely talking. Jana made fun of Arantxa by kissing rackets ... at the end they barely greeted each other.

Their friendship and partnership were totally ruined when they competed a spot in the final in 96 Olympic Games. Jana lost that match and accused Arantxa of her sportsmanship in press conference. Before that match, they already met 2 times in 1996, and Arantxa won both matches.

@@JacquesHsu and they played San Diego after and Arantxa won that too . The tide turned at the 96 Masters. ASV had won 7 matches in a row and led the h2h 8-6. Then Jana won 5 of the last 7

Arantxa and Jana friendship has turned sour because of their rivalry. Jana was just jealous that Arantxa is a better player. To be fair Arantxa is better. 4 grandslams vs 1 grandslams the record is legit. However Jana is a good player unfortunately she couldn't handle the pressure especially in Wimbledon 1993

Jana is definitely the better grass player though. And the better carpet player too. I agree Aranxta was better overall, but she isn't better on every surface.

Aranxta Granslam title are rare one. 2 against Graf, 1 against Seles another against Pierce. Novotna only beat Tauziat for the only GS title. Yes. Aranxta is better.
