I am a total noob. A singer trying to navigate making my own music for the first time. I always had highly skilled musicians around me so didn't need to worry, just had to nail the vocal. Have purchased this unit as I am a bit of frustrated drummer in many ways. Made to play clarinet as a kid, I would irritate my parents through constant drumming on my clarinet case in the car on the way to practice. This is a great video my friend. I could follow most of it but the demos you produced had me grinning from ear to ear. 'I have thousands of rhymes inside my mind...' I just hope I can learn how to make them a reality. You have helped immensely. Brilliant.

Great tutorial! As a first time user, it really helped me get the lay of the land and overall functions to get straight to a gig with my own wav files on board. I've come across a strange issue though, I created percussion loops at 120 bpm, imported them to a kit set to 120 bpm, but when I play them back they are at approx 111 bpm?! Have you (or anyone else reading this thread) come across this issue? How do I make sure that my wav is going to play back at the correct tempo. I should also say that my goal is to be able to use the tap tempo feature to get these percussion loops to play back at various tempos.

Just watched some of your videos...really good work man, thank! I have one question about sampling on the SPD SX... do you know how many layers the samples can have when sampling in external sounds? i.e when one hits the pad softly you get a sublte sound and when one progresively hits the pads harder you get pregresively harder sounds... I know that the Alesis Strike only has 2 layers which I guess makes doing drum rolls sound very 'machine gun like'... do you know if the SPD SX is any better in this aspect, like does it have lets say 10 layers, are the pads velocity sensitive and can handle a high number of layers? Thanks again! :)

I don't know exactly how many layers are there dynamics wise, the pads are velocity sensitive and definitely have more than two steps in volume. You can do a decent crescendo with the sounds.

@thehybriddrummer thank you for the informative videos, I have an Alesis ControlPad, I can use great sounds and samples in Ableton live, which is great, however I can't connect an Ipad to it or iPhone, I got this kit to have access to percussion sounds and I found this great app DrumJam that has really good sounds and functions, ie when you heit the same pad multiple times the sounds are slightly varied to give them a more natural feel, however the app is not available for mac or pc, only iPhone and ipad as it was intended to also be played by hand on these devices. So I am looking for something similar to the ControlPad, 8 pads, ability to Hook it up to both mac, and ipad, I think yamaha dd65 can do it but it's ugly as hell and the surface is even harder than Alesis pads. Which one would be more suitable in your opinion, spd sx or Octapad? I really want to use that app so connecting the ipad is a must. (BTW I have also found another product, Carlsbro Octo A, basically a copy of Octapad, that could also work for me but there aren't many videos in English, and no tutorial)

@@TheHybridDrummer hey, thanks for the tip, that is exactly how I tried to connect the ControlPad before and it didn't work, when I hit the pads the light indicating midi notes created isn't even coming on, I first thought it's the app itself, but when I use the camera kit I can connect the ipad to my electronic kit and use the app with no problem, I contacted Alesis and they said the ControlPad was designed to be used with a mac or pc so ipads won't work, I even tried an external power source maflde for the ControlPad but I am still getting a message ont he ipad: device not recognised. Anyway, thanks for your help, The Carlsbro Octo A is £199, and if it can loop, that would be worth considering over the octapad at £450 used.

@@TheHybridDrummer hi, I was wondering if for example you can connect a midi controller (such as Akai for finger drumming with many other function) and an Octapad in a chain to Ableton and get to control more functions (fx, echo etc) manipulating the Akai while affecting the performance of the Octapad or any percussion pad in general? some simple and cheap midi controllers can be so functional yet really expensive padsbfor drummers seem to have limited functionality, ie the yamaha dtxm12 has a bunch of functions the spd sx doesn't have or the Octapad can't do vica versa.

Hi, I would like to know your opinion. I hesitate to buy between Roland SPD- SX Sampling pad vs Roland Octapad SPD-30 My main purpose why I want to buy something like is, is to have something like electronic percussion set in my small studio in my flat - so for that will be better SPD 30. But if I am right ,when I will buy SPD-SX I can upload into it different drum samples and I can play on it as on Octapad SPD -30 So if I will buy SPD- SX, I can use it as drum/percussion instrument and also as an sampler. So I will have 2 in 1. So I think for that is for me better to buy SPD- SX. Am I right? Thank you
@TheHybridDrummer2 жыл бұрын
Hi! The only thing you need to decide is wether you need a hihat pedal or not. Because the SPD-SX can't handle that. Another option could be to use the SPD 30 as a MIDI controller. You just plug it into your computer with a USB cable and control for example a drum rack in Ableton. I do this when I need more samples with my Octapad. It's also possible with an iPad or even a phone. Here is a tutorial about this method: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqClfIlvdtljqKM

@@lubomirrabatin6500 you can go with the SPD-SX then. It’s easier to record that and load samples to it.
