The social norm of marriage is definitely not as important today as it was in the past. Its entirely a social construct and it was made to help track families and lineages which were a big deal back in earlier civilizations (and sometimes still today) who didn't keep records very well or have DNA tests. It's still pushed on people as "traditional" and if you want that, great, but you shouldn't feel like you NEED to do it because it's expected of you. Staying single, fwb, poly relationships, sister-wives, brother-husbands (idk if that's a thing), Doms, subs, it's all good. Different strokes for different folks. More complicated arrangement require more communication and usually more explicit rules to be sustainable long-term, but if it makes everyone happy, then you'll work it out. And let's face it, even marriages don't last forever. People fall in and our of love throughout their lives. Some people experience and process love differently. It's a whole spectrum. I don't think it's right to put pressure on someone that they HAVE to find the person they're gonna live with FOREVER. Some people never do. The key is that everyone involved is consenting, nobody is being taken advantage of, everyone's happy, and everyone's communicating. Boom.
