She took this interview and ran with it. Dick tried to make her seem like a pretty face, as well as the audience who laughed at her expense. They all had very little to say when she actually spoke up for those whose voices aren’t as loud as hers. It’s so great to see how early she used her platform as a way to advocate for what’s right.

Totally agree. She was not a docile interviewee, like say Natalie Wood, who seemed giggly and light-hearted by comparison when she was on Cavett's Show, though clearly also very smart. Jane was strong and direct so as to demand to be taken seriously or else. Damn good for her. I could totally see her walking off the set, a la Lily Tomlin (also on Cavett's Show), otherwise.

To come out and speak about women's rights and Native American rights, especially during this time, was extremely brave of her. And PROPS to the Native American woman too! I can't imagine how much hardships she must have went through. The racism and violence her people were subject to.

Yes, a beauty with Intellect, what shocker! Jane was/is so ahead of her time. Leads fiercely & with a passion only to have to explain how & why which takes away from her further delving into the issues, & there are so many. Have been a fan of her advocacy & activism for years. So impressed by her determination of uncovering what is plainly evident to some, yet missing on the radar of the powers that be, & others.

Ok... Despite my appearance I am Native American or “Indian” as they are called in this video and the comments. So here’s a thought.... had Spain, France, or England kept hold of this land we wouldn’t have even had reservations. We’d have been wiped out, or our youth would’ve undergone cultural white washing until our previous cultures were almost totally forgotten. As it is we were the last to get our rights, African American men, and then women received theirs first, Natives didn’t get the right to vote or be treated as human beings until after that, the same time as Asian and Mexican Americans did. But... BUT at least we are allowed to remain, we haven’t been lost to history or wiped out. I for one don’t want anybodies handouts... I started below the poverty line, enlisted and got myself out from there, i was discharged and have not allowed myself to fall back to where I started. I never asked for money or handouts from anyone. I worked my ass off then was discharged and got a trade to continue working my ass off. I don’t want your handouts... it’s insulting. It’s like saying “it’s ok little Indian, you’re stupid and incapable of of doing things on your own so we’ll fight on your behalf because you’re too stupid to do it, and give you things because you’re too lazy to get the money to get them yourselves...” it’s beyond insulting. Want to honor or give back to the Natives? Well I don’t have a good answer there, but throwing free crap at them isn’t a good one.

Kinjal Datta wrong Indians. You speak of the Hindu Indians, the East Indians... I speak of the “Indians” Columbus “discovered” when he got lost and landed on the wrong continent. I speak of the Indians who fought Vikings off their shores and inhabited North America while you speak of the Indians who live in India. Two entirely different people.

The state of Oklahoma has got a long way to go as far as treating the Native Indians equally. Unfortunately there is still so much prejudice in this state 50 years after this interview. Very much a shame since they claim to be such a god fearing state and the buckle of the Bible belt. Ironically enough though, one can back up just about any behavior with the Bible whether it's good or bad when you really think about it......
